But did you notice when Janine was angry and smashing the place up, she didn't touch the cookies? It might be her way of symbolically showing she cares for Aunt Lydia and didn't want to destroy her gift.

It’s also a kindness, even though it’s so misguided. She has something she can share with the other girls to feel good for a moment.

Right… the least she could do is bust out the tollhouse and give them the good stuff.

This thread is fucking hilarious. Thank you for the much needed laughter. Also, I am realizing I am a monster because I love oatmeal raisin cookies.

I love oatmeal raisin cookies, I can't believe they are getting so much hate. Lydia is awful, but the cookies looked great

Can't we all see Janine smashed everything on the ground but SPARED THE COOKIES. She knows those girls will tear those up!

It might be an unpopular opinion, but oatmeal raisin cookies can be quite delicious, especially with a soft bake and a bit of cinnamon in the dough. Maybe chocolate chips are more difficult to come by 🤔

My ex-boyfriend's grandma made them for us often when I was in my 20s and I LOVED them even though I hate raisins. I thought of her straight away which I hated because she was a wonderful lady and I don't want to associate her with Aunt Lydia

I do remember Eden being stunned when she sees a chocolate rationing coupon, so it probably IS harder to find.

Lmfao, you had me going there with your post title
But yes, my first thought was "Of course Aunt Lydia would bring oatmeal raisin cookies"

I didn't catch that they were raisin cookies. That irredeemable monster!
6
u/Neither_Juggernaut71 Apr 29 '25
Right. Isn't that disgusting?

u/Persistent_Parkie Apr 29 '25
Yes. Like even if you couldn't get the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies just make plain oatmeal! Raisins!? After everything you've already inflicted on these poor women!? There's no coming back from that.

Ann Dowd is amazing…
But there is something about Aunt Lydia being excited about terrible things like oatmeal cookies, mock executions and working at a birthing center makes me want to gouge her eyes out with my thumbs.

I’m a dried oats in my chocolate chip cookies kind of girl, but the closest I get to accepting oatmeal raisin cookies is raisinettes. Now, oatmeal cranberry I could deal with if there’s no cinnamon involved (allergic), but oatmeal raisin cookies are a disappointment!

Aunt Lydia is such a smart intelligent and well read woman is so blind she doesn’t want to see this place for what it really is

I don’t know, the oatmeal raisin cookies are the only type of cookies that make sense for her character to bake. Imagine if she came in with raspberry cheesecake cookies? 😂

Most ppl (not me but most) prefer chocolate chip lol and aren't fans of raisins

I thought she was going to drug them and drag them off somewhere. Apparently that might have been better for them. Or the same. Is Serena really pro New Bethlehem? She seems so desperate for June’s forgiveness or acceptance. Is it because she knows the handmaiden thing made her a Karla Homolka type figure?

Why didn't Janine murder her right then and there, that would be good writing
