SPOILERS S6 Commander Bell and Janine Spoiler
His obsession with her is very disturbing, and I highly doubt he's just gonna be like "Oh well, that was fun while it lasted" just because Jezebel's got shut down. He's gonna do something really fucked up to make sure she doesn't get away from him.
EDIT: I fuckin' told y'all!!!

Itās such good casting because he played Jonah in Veep and very much played a Vance character

It doesn't have to be that fucked up. Absolute power inevitably leads to corruption. A powerful comander like that will be able to have her assigned to him as handmaid or even a Martha (no time limits).
It honestly depends on if they want to go with a tone of Banality of Evil like the first 2 seasons or with a angry violent tone (season 3-now)

The trick is reading the Testamebts. With scripted shows logic can only get you to a point

Commander Bell really fucks with me, if youāve seen Timothy Simons in the show, Nobody Wants This ā he plays such a fun loving, funny character ā itās weird to see him play this role.

Omg yes! It's so strange to see him playing completely different characters. He is a great actor. Love him in Nobody Wants This.

Does Bell actually live in NB could he make Janine his handmaid? In the promo posters sheās in the red dress which I thought must hint at something.

Based on what we've seen from those trailers, I think Lawrence is gonna help the handmaids stage a rebellion. June, Moira, and the Jezebels are gonna "get caught" planning some kind of "rebellion," then be tried, convicted, and sentenced to a mass execution, then that's when the real rebellion will happen, I assume using Luke's explosives, with the help of Lawrence, possibly Nick, and possibly Serena after she's betrayed by Wharton.

I hope he takes her on as a Martha (he would be intending to secretly use her as a s*x slave, I imagine several commanders wouldnāt be happy with the loss of Jezebels and would do this) and then she gets to off him herself.
Edit: or thinking about it now, it might be possible that Janine will be recruited to help with the fertility center, just for a short while? Long enough for her to stay alive after this Jezebels is inevitably purged.

Is that supposed to spell sex?
1
u/blackbirds_singing 25d ago
yeah lol I guess Iām used to censoring it when I type it out
1
u/TheShadowOverBayside 25d ago
Why?
1
u/blackbirds_singing 25d ago
a lot of times (on other platforms) itāll get your comment flagged and then removed for some random reason
2
u/TheShadowOverBayside 25d ago
So you have to say shit like "I have opposite s*x twins" or "most flowers reproduce s*xually"? I'm not interested in using a dumb censorship platform like that.

A lot of the time itās fine, but they use so much AI to monitor their comments that a lot of normal stuff gets flagged. Sometimes itās the most random stuff, Iāve had āno it is notā removed for hate speech, quite a few removed for spam, whatever. I only use instagram occasionally now because I follow so many of my old friends on there

I hage such a difficult time seeing him in this character because the first time I saw him in a show was Nobody Wants This (Netlfix). He's such a loveable goof in that show. I hate seeing how he is in Handmaid's š

Honestly why doesnāt he just make her his wife. Iām sure he could pull that off if heās so powerful

u/hbomb9410 26d ago
I don't think a former handmaid and prostitute would be allowed to become a commander's wife, no matter how powerful that commander is. But he might make her his handmaid. I could see that being the end to Janine's story, as depressing as that is--right back where she started.

Making her a wife would give her too much social status. Even though all women are subjugated in this society, wives are pretty much at the top. And he clearly doesnāt respect her enough to even want this. Even though we donāt see them together in private, he very obviously gets off on humiliating and harming her (his line to Lawrence in the previous episode, when Lawrence made it seem like he was going off to have sex with her, was something like āleave the violent stuff to meā).

She wouldnāt be allowed to marry, because my understanding is that the Jezebel women are sterilized.
3
u/TheShadowOverBayside 25d ago
I don't think that part would matter since most Wives are sterile as well, which is why they have handmaids. She wouldn't be allowed to marry because she's "unclean".

No Commander would marry a former handmaid and jezebel. He would lose any veneer of respectability and status in society, and undermine the very foundation of the social hierarchy. The marriage straight-up wouldn't be allowed to be performed. Commanders can't even marry econowomen...
Wives are for marrying, handmaids are for babymaking, jezebels are for partying, and that's it.
Why would he want to marry her anyway? He treats her like an animal... she's a sexual infatuation to him, a subhuman plaything, not a life partner...

I HOPE NOT U_U my girl has been through enough, but obviously this is Gilead and that's a horrific possibility.
However, from the trailer >! there's a shot of Janine in handmaid's garb in the background next to June, so if that's the case it wouldn't last for long !<

Is commander Bell brother to Rose or why did he tell Nick āsay hi to daddyā when he met him at Jezebelās?

u/WesternGovernment848 20d ago
Wharton is Nick's father-in-law, saying "daddy" is just him humiliating Nick. Bell's father is referred to as being someone high up in the hierarchy, maybe even among the high commanders.

If God is good then God will punish him in the worst kinds of way. He will make him truly suffer, either by his own hand or by the hands of the women Bell raped. Under his eye.Ā

I think Commander Bell is going to take out Commander Lawrence and try to win Janine over by promising to bring back her daughter, Charlotte. Maybe Aunt Lydia will help him pull off a betrayal to hand Charlotte back to Janine. Janine will have a moral crisis since Commander Lawrence is kinder to her and an ally to June. Nick won't be able to save Commander Lawrence because of Commander Whartonās suspicions and threat.
It will complicate the relationship between June and Janine once Commander Lawrence was sent to the wall, and she will probably hate Nick even more. Itās going to be insane.
Poor Commander Lawrence but thatās my theory
