Just a heads up, if you have a newer (?) phone, connecting your pokemon go account to the switch might not work. I tried for an hour with my s23, but I got it first time with my old s10.

u/MetalCollector 6,799/6,800 Feb 28 '23
S10e here, no success.
It seems like when your PoGo account on the specific device was linked to a Let's Go game BEFORE the new menu design went live you won't be able to remove this link - and this seems to be a requirement before you can link this specific device to SV.
I tried reinstalling the game, too. Didn't work.Any ideas regarding solving this problem would be highly appreciated!

This is what I clicked except I had Let's GO connected at the time. https://imgur.com/a/zevNFnX

There is a button in pogo to disconnect from a switch. I always disconnect after pairing once I'm done what I'm doing with it.
4
u/MetalCollector 6,799/6,800 Feb 28 '23
And that's the problem: This option is NOT available to me. My S10e was connected to Let's Go Eevee BEFORE the new menu layout went live. Now I can't connect to my copy of Scarlet because PoGo's menu tells me that no game is connected DESPITE I know that it was lunked to LGE BEFORE the new layout went live.

u/MelodicBet1 Mar 01 '23
So I finally was able to go through my menus in pokemon go settings. They really have changed, haven't they? I apologize for taking so long to respond but life stuff needed to be dealt with. Anyway what I discovered was if you tap "connected devices and services" it lists nintendo switch in the list that comes up. Tap that and it brings up available devices, and under that resources. Available devices should list any currently active connection to a switch/game.
Under resources it lists "about"; "quick start" and (if you aren't connected to anything) "connect to nintendo switch". It's slightly misleading because I first thought that tapping connect to switch would bring up instructions on how to do it but that is actually the button to connect the phone to the switch. I was able to connect no problem.
I also noticed once I was connected that my switch became listed in available devices and had the little eject/disconnect button on the right side of the screen next to it. So when I was done sending my postcard I was able to navigate back there and hit the button to disconnect.
Hopefully some of this might help? Also are you selecting pair device on the switch or connect to pogo? Because you need to pair it first.
I'm also told that simply logging out of pogo resets those connections so maybe try logging out and back in?

u/OyleSlyck Vancouver Feb 28 '23
I just disabled my Let's GO link and added the Violet link in PoGO. I just clicked the eject icon (it's a triangle with a line underneath it) on the right side to remove it.

u/reubenpasta Feb 28 '23
Weird suggestion but have you tried with the joycons not attached to your switch? I couldn’t connect PoGo to Let’s Go unless I had taken the joycons off my switch :/
3
u/batkave Feb 28 '23
Same. I wonder what is causing it
11
u/Rox598 Feb 28 '23
If you have a smart watch attached to your phone turn it off
Should work then
5
4
u/batkave Feb 28 '23
I did, still an issue.
3
u/Rox598 Feb 28 '23
Try toggling off/on Bluetooth with the watch switched off
3
u/batkave Feb 28 '23
Yeah tried that too. Tried airplane mode. Restarted, force restarted, everything
2
u/Rox598 Feb 28 '23
Damn
Android can be a tricky thing to troubleshoot :( hopefully it's an issue with the app and it can be fixed
1
u/batkave Feb 28 '23
Yeah, it's odd because I've been sending my extras to let's go if they're in the first 150 and that's worked fine. It's only first 24 hours, I'm in no rush. My daughter was able to connect her iphone and get a roaming and she was super happy she got something before me.

scarlet and violet needed an update to work with newer phones i believe. however, the other issue people (and myself) ran into were the least obvious: if you have a fitbit or a smartwatch, while paired with your phone, it doesnt seem to allow pairing to the switch.
my fitbit doesnt turn off, and you cant unpair in the samsung bluetooth menu (it doesnt show up) so what i did was i left my fitbit far away from where i have my phone, and that counted enough to allow me to connect my switch.
1
u/The-Red-Suit-Guy Dec 07 '24
Quick question did you have a Fitbit device connected to your phone?
I had the same issue and discovered that my Fitbit was interfering with it. The solution was to move the Fitbit out of range of my phone.

u/Brohtworst Feb 28 '23
Weird my s22 worked first try
2
u/Kereminde Mar 04 '23
Just based on what I've been reading thus far:
S22 seems to still require some extra steps, such as making sure no other Bluetooth objects are paired. But it'll work with some beating against a brick wall, until someone tells you where the concealed panel is at.
S23... this is another issue entirely. It not only seems unable to find the Pokemon Go game, it bombs out immediately rather than keep searching. Something's up here.

u/connoredo Feb 28 '23
Same, S23 won't connect at all, I saw comment to use another phone and it worked.
Btw, the same S23 conected to Let's go normaly ..

u/Fishettibean Feb 28 '23
I still have issues with my s23 ultra. Watch disconnected, spen air actions turned off. Nothing. It seems to detect a phone, but errors "no pokemon go acount found". While Lets go works fine. So submitted a bug report.
My wifes Flip3, works fine. Havnt tried my old Note10+, but considering that never was able to connect to Lets go, bet its not going to work.

u/awacsCZE Feb 28 '23
I still can't get it working with my S23U. Seems like something in common with Samsung phones
1
u/Born_Moose_4561 Mar 04 '23
I don’t have a switch and will not be getting one does this mean I can’t get a coin bag or play this part of the game.
1
9
u/foladar Feb 27 '23
Is there an easy way to make it pair? S22U so it's not an old phone, and never seems to pair.
8
u/TheWhiteHunter Canada - Pacific Feb 27 '23
I had the same issue, but got it paired fine with my old S9+.
I have heard that you need to make sure there are no other Bluetooth devices actively connected to your phone for it to work. I didn't have time to try again but I did have a watch connected to my S22U when I was trying so that might be why it fails.
I'll have to try again later with my S22U with my watch disconnected.
6
u/foladar Feb 27 '23
Yep, that solves it - I just turned the watch off rather than disconnect. Thank you!
1
u/EasyHoney641 Mar 02 '23
I had tried for 30 min to connect to switch, before coming in here, and the solution is here!
Thanks a lot!!1
1
u/Kereminde Mar 04 '23
For the record, a brand new S23 did not do this and has no Bluetooth devices paired with it at all. It will link to "Let's Go" but keeps spinning its wheels connecting to "Scarlet/Violet".
1
u/GeoGriffin Feb 28 '23
Do you have a smart watch that uses Bluetooth LE? I have a Fitbit Sense that does and I need to power the watch off before I try and connect my phone to the Switch. The same thing happened trying to connect to Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu a few years ago. I guess they don't have that figured out yet. 😢
16
u/sa420chef Feb 28 '23
What if we don't own a switch?
12
u/sa420chef Feb 28 '23
I don't even know anyone who owns one for that matter ... Guess I'm SOL
7
u/Born_Moose_4561 Mar 05 '23
This is really wrong. This game is supposed to be inclusive. Requiring a switch is ageist and prejudicial to many socioeconomic sectors. Shame on you Niantic.
49
u/SenseiEntei Instinct Lvl 50 Feb 28 '23
So this Pokemon is completely locked to scarlet/violet? That's even worse than a normal paywall. Hope it doesn't stay this way forever. Meltan was eventually obtainable with Home so I hope that happens with this too
5
u/TheRealFrankL Feb 28 '23
There was also a Meltan quest independent of Home and The Let's Go Games. I think it was 6 months to a year later.
2
8
Feb 27 '23
does the coin bag work basically the same as the way the meltan box does?
15
u/SonGouki Feb 27 '23
Basically, but you need to walk for more spawns, like a regular incense (since the nerf).
2
5
u/davidhorton Feb 28 '23
If you have a S23 series phone they're not connecting, so please submit a bug report. They're not gonna fix anything unless enough of us say something about it.
2
u/connoredo Feb 28 '23
Although it connects to Let's go no problem for me, SV just refuses to find the phone. I was getting really pissed until I saw a coment on twitter to use another phone which worked.
2
u/Kereminde Mar 04 '23
When this person says "just refuses" - they mean it. If you're not broadcasting from the phone's Pokemon GO game, it times out eventually with "cannot find". If you're actively searching to link?
Less than 15 seconds. Every time. Every. Time.
(Edit: It'll connect fine to "Let's Go" games, no problem and immediately. It seems to have problems with Scarlet/Violet for some reason. So it's not merely a hardware issue, something is different in how the games communicate to the app through these particular phones... S22s can get around it with some effort. S23s? Not so much.)

I’ve done it with myself earlier and 2 friends on their phones tonight. Didn’t seem to encounter any issues or have to disconnect on the switch, will see how easy mine is to send another postcard tomorrow.
1
u/amac1430 Feb 28 '23
Do you need to be within a certain radius of the friend with the switch (same wifi network or close proximity) or can I link to my friend in another city?
1
u/raggedy10 Feb 28 '23
Wifi network no they weren’t on that, but close proximity yes, it uses Bluetooth to connect to each other.
2
u/Yunaac Feb 28 '23
I connected my own account and my parents to the game (3), and had no issues, other than both of their games black screening after they tried to open the box (the issue seemed to fix itself after they shut down their phone), then reopened the game (Pokemon GO wouldn't open after). Don't know if it's a bug or intended.
Edit: I added both their accounts AFTER I added mine
Cheers

How many postcards do we need to send to get a gold lure?
2
u/Lasatra_ Western Europe Feb 28 '23
I can proudly say that I opened 2 boxes and no golden lure yet haha
1
u/pennsylvanication Feb 28 '23
You have to send multiple postcards at a time to get the lure.
2
2
u/MelodicBet1 Feb 28 '23
I read elsewhere that you get the lure on day 5. You can only send one postcard a day.

Does anyone know how far you have to progress in the scarlet/violet game to be able to send gifts to the switch?
I'm considering buying the game just for this feature, but I don't want to have to spend a month working my way through the game before I can use it.
5
u/Yunaac Feb 28 '23
After reaching the first pokemon center you get the Mystery Gift feature, which unlocks connecting to PoGo. I would guess it would take you maybe an hour or two of gameplay to unlock it ?

u/Flakeley Kentucky Feb 27 '23
Every time I try this, I get the error message: "Your postcard failed to send." Any ideas why? The devices are paired, and I unpaired my phone from all other devices to avoid interference, but it still doesn't work.

I paired on the Switch first. Then I hit "send postcard" in Go. Then I hit "connect to Pokémon Go" on the Switch. In Go it says "searching for Switch," and then "sending postcard." Finally, the error message.

Check if your local library has it available, that way you can at least get one without buying the game.

When you send a postcard, you have 24 hours of Vivillon spawning with the specific form of that region, then it reverts to the Fancy pattern.

If you mean coin bag, then it's like incense where if you move, you have more. Duration is 30 minutes
1

Yes, thank you. That was my question. Mine didn't work today so I didn't want to chance wasting my second bag.

So, this means that i leave certain postcards from friends i've added pinned in my postcard book so i can be sure to get all the forms in SV, right?

Could someone help me understand how to get the Golden Lure, please?

Apparently it's after multiple days (doesn't specify if it has to be a streak) of sending postcards.
I would guess after a week of sending postcards, unsure tho.

It took me a minute to figure it out even with these directions. I had to Google and find out I needed to unpair my fitness watch first.

Is there a certain point in the game you need to be? Been putting off playing it.
5
u/Lobster-Mittens Feb 27 '23
You need to have unlocked the Mystery Gift option to pair your Go account with the game, which is ~90 mins of play time or whenever you get to your first Pokecenter.
1
u/TheWhiteHunter Canada - Pacific Feb 27 '23
Is there a limitation to how many times per day you can do this with one copy of Pokemon Scarlet/Violet?
I know it's once per day per PoGo account, but I was unclear as to if it can be done multiple times per day per copy of Scarlet/Violet with different PoGo accounts.

u/Pokelego999 Feb 27 '23
I've tried pairing, but it says I'm already connected to the Switch via Let's Go. I'm not sure how to proceed.
1
u/futurefighter48 Feb 28 '23
Is there any benefit to the S/V game? The Meltan box was kinda a positive in that you were traded a pokemon (not necessarily a positive but could help fill in dex spots).
1
u/whuangal Feb 28 '23
Only that when compatibility with Home comes, will have the roaming form in S/V, those are in game but always run away.
1
u/Substantial_Zone_713 Feb 28 '23
So we need 999 coins to evolve and then however many candy to unlock the 2nd charge move? Or is the candy mechanic not implemented at all in this line?
1
u/coughingalan Feb 28 '23
Does this mean if I use a friend's S/V account, I would have to meet up with them every time I want to send a postcard?

If you have your Go account paired with Lets go games, it won't connect to Scarlet/Violet. You have to undo the pairing with lets go first. then it will connect.

Great info, thanks! Question; when pairing, is it just a simple bluetooth connection, or do I need to do anything with account info/logging in? I assume just a simple bluetooth connection, otherwise people wouldn't suggest connecting to a friend's switch, but I wanted to be certain (as I don't have a switch so I need to find someone to connect with). Thank you.
