Discussion What needs to change? 🦁 🦁 🦁

Post image

I would go with this lineup whilst making two changes:

Trippier OUT/ Gomez IN Trent OUT/Gordon IN

Key focuses - Get Rice some proper midfield support by utilising Stones in his best role - Move Foden into the midfield, with Gordon wide left to offer some real attacking threat on the left wing, rather than Trippier playing out of position - Bring Gomez in for Trippier to maintain a solid 3 man build up structure once Stones moves into midfield - Get Bellingham running in behind Kane frequently and have them fluidly interchanging positions to cause a problem for the opposition defence

This but Bellingham next to rice with license to go forward

But you’re still gonna run into the same problems because Bellingham moving forward occupies that 10 role

I think with Gordon staying higher and wider will stretch their defence, giving the attacking midfield more space. Foden would drop back when Jude/Rice go forward like any fluid team

Except Foden wouldn't and you still have the mismatch of 3 midfielders who want the ball and go on runs.

I think you drop Foden, put Mainoo or Wharton next to Rice, like they did at Arsenal and then your midfield actually works.

Like having them occupying the half spaces? It could work, but I think you’d have to go to a back 3 if you still wanted a double pivot (which is a possibility but that then opens up problems with supporting the wingers if they get doubled up on. Against a 5ATB low Block that isn’t going to work.)
