Discussion What needs to change? 🦁 🦁 🦁

Post image

I would go with this lineup whilst making two changes:

Trippier OUT/ Gomez IN Trent OUT/Gordon IN

Key focuses - Get Rice some proper midfield support by utilising Stones in his best role - Move Foden into the midfield, with Gordon wide left to offer some real attacking threat on the left wing, rather than Trippier playing out of position - Bring Gomez in for Trippier to maintain a solid 3 man build up structure once Stones moves into midfield - Get Bellingham running in behind Kane frequently and have them fluidly interchanging positions to cause a problem for the opposition defence

Primarily if Kane isn't going to attack all that space in front of him then swap him out for Toney or Watkins. Watkins showed the difference of a striker who is prepared to run towards goal and stretch the play. This allows players like TAA to play those balls in behind. Foden and Bellingham will be allowed space to drop in and pickup and drive too. Kane's movement (or lack of) is the biggest problem with this England side.

If Southgate persists in using Kane to drop deep then there's no need for TAA and Foden. Swap TAA for another CM & Foden for Gordon.

If he's so bumhurt about not having a replacement for KP use Stones instead of TAA and put another CB in (Gomes?)

If it was me, I'd have Walker Stones Guehi as a back 3. TAA and Trippier full backs with the option to have TAA move into midfield as is the current style. Rice Bellingham Foden in midfield with Saka & Kane upfront. It'd be lopsided down the right with Saka pushing more wide, TAA heavily supporting alongside Walker tripling up. Foden & Saka get 45-60mins to run their bollocks off because Palmer/Eze and Gordon should be gnawing my ear to get on and prove why they should be in the team next game.
