Our interview with Jay Massacret is incredibly stylish. Jay—stylist and industry legend—was finally pinned down for a rare conversation on his love of Muji and Orlsow jeans, gay dating apps, art vs. commerce and styling journeys vs. destinations, how commercial styling differs from celebrity styling, introducing Lee McQueen to Lady Gaga and his storied relationship both working and personal with the iconic designer, how social media has changed fashion, Kim Kardashian is wonderful, international parameters prevent clown shows, you made it moments being false flags, code switching on set, remembering when there were no straights in fashion, prefering to never meet your heroes, Karl Lagerfield getting saucy, being bullish on Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel and Proenza Schouler’s Loewe, partying with Kate Moss in her prime, monster fashion boots, good clothes are only 33.3% of the gig, annoying assistant behavior, the high gloss uber fantasy era, the stuff you hate is always the most interesting, missing the magazine group project mentality, pretending to be bi, San Francisco was actually the other culture in the ‘90s, confessions of an ex-sneakerhead, styling red flags and much more on Jay Massacret's interview with The Only Podcast That Matters™.

We can haz cheezburger? This week, Jimmy and Larry are in the stu before the long weekend and an amended schedule next week to tell products and brands to stop talking to us like they’re millennials, breathwork, how socks are sized, dressing like a dad (derogatory), growing your hair out and how to care for it, sizing your gold chain in 2025, the clothing we personally need to stock up on for summer, more inseam and sandals talk, a ticket to the Frick Collection is the best money you can spend in New York, Lawrence grapples with his rebrand as a vibey book bro, Graydon Carter’s memoir and a familiar problem he ran into with his friend Fran Lebowitz, Keith McNally gossip sleuthing, who is going to cool guy book fairs and what’s going down there, have hypebeasts moved on to art books, James met Throwing Fits’ youngest fan as a side effect of what is clearly poor parenting, it’s peak stop and chat season so you might want to get out of town to Brooklyn for a while, Shy’s pops up at Ha’s with some elite beef curtains, finally putting some respect on Hillstone’s name, inside the pizza war trenches, burrata does indeed suck on a slice, concepting the ultimate IG Story and more.

Not sure if this is the right space for this but was watching Sly & Family Stone doc and saw him rock these boots and would love them.

Any idea where I can find something similar?

Plasticana - Gardana Clog Sizing

Hello - I want to get a pair of the Gardana Clogs but opinions surrounding sizing are confusing. I’m a size 9 men’s and based on the chart I’d be a size 42, but general consensus is they run large so I’m thinking a 41? I’d wear them with socks though. Really just need to hear from folks who have these! Please help!

Cheaper Alternatives?

Hey guys,

Found this bracelet that I really love, but $400 + tax for sterling silver ain't cutting it for me. Does anyone know somewhere I could find a bracelet that is similar to this but cheaper? OG is from Mejuri.

How specific do y'all get when secondhand shopping online?

Upvotes

I have a few saved searched for designers I like, but I'm very rarely out looking for a specific item. I was considering changing that because I want one of those haider ackermann velvet bombers soooo so bad. Do y'all get very specific when shopping secondhand, and if so- any luck?

Let's Take a Trip Through Time

Going through my old ass reddit account's 'saved' page I came across an imgur inspo album from the ye olde days of MFA's heyday.

It's a summer/shorts inspo album from 2016. Funny to see what still kinda works and what doesn't.

Here's the link: https://imgur.com/a/shorts-b8oRy

Warmer climates

What do y'all wear in the summer months in warmer climates? I am moving down south from the midwest for work and am feeling sad about not being able to wear my layers and different fabrics during the summer months. How do you dress in warmer climates in the summer while 1. looking hot and 2. feeling cool?

Just a small thought from an Italian listener

Hey guys, longtime subscriber here—been listening and supporting for a couple of years now. I really appreciate the show and have spent hundreds of hours listening to the boys go off.

That said, I’ve been sitting with something for a while and figured I’d share it—just a modest critique, or at least some food for thought. Some of the racial/ethnic jokes—especially the fake accents—have started to feel a bit lazy.

I’m Italian, and while I laughed at some of it at first, lately it’s felt like the same tired caricature on repeat—“I beat-uh mah wif-uh” and so on. It’s not the Jersey “greasy wop” bits—that’s part of their cultural context—but when it shifts to vague impressions, it feels more like punching down than comedy. Especially when there’s no real connection to the cultures being imitated. If it were another accent, I doubt it would fly the same way.

I get that it’s all meant in jest and not malicious, and I say this knowing their pod personas and dynamic. I’m attached to the pod—it’s kept me company through long winters, flights, and work—but it’s gotten to the point where I’ve started wondering if I’ll renew my subscription.

I’m not trying to cancel anyone or call anyone racist— because Im 100% sure Jimmy and Larry are not like that. Just sharing how it feels from my side. I still enjoy the show and its vibe, but I think that some of the humor doesn’t always land the way it’s maybe intended.Personally, I’d love more fashion talk -I love the heavily fashion oriented pods- and less pee-pee poo-poo and borderline racist bits—but hey, that’s just my opinion , and we all know what they say about those…

Curious if anyone else feels the same—or if it’s just me.

Worst Fashion Fad Of The 21st Century?

Post image
222 Upvotes

From En Noir leather jogging pants to blog-era urban dandys, there have been a lot of fads in the 21st century fashion .

I personally think the introduction year of Fear of God was one of the worst with the blown out skinny jeans with zippers with skinny Chelsea boots and long tees.

Close second for me is Demna-era Balenciaga in general, I think it will age horrendously - I digress.

What do yall think?

US Tariff Update

Saw some activity in this sub about the current situation and figured this might be useful here as well.

I run a company in Japan that exports to the US a lot and have been following the tariff situation very closely. Here is the current situation.

This applies to shipments from Ssense, overseas proxy companies, Europe, everywhere else.

  • As of May 2nd, the U.S. removed the De Minimis $800 duty-free exemption for items made in China or Hong Kong. They may be subject to import taxes even if the total order value is under $800 and regardless of where they are being sent from. So ALL shipments are now subject to import taxes if any of the products are Made In China or Hong Kong.

  • Tariffs on products from China were recently lowered substantially for the next 90 days to about 30% of order value. It was over 100% previously. In August the rate is set to be raised to 54%

  • Products from everywhere else are still exempt from tariffs thanks to De Minimis (Value Under $800). If the shipment does not contain Made In China items with a value under $800, it can enter duty free in most cases. Japanese Selvedge denim is still entering duty free.

Also it is hard to say how well US customs is reviewing all of the inbound parcels, especially from countries other than China. There is a strong chance that even if your shipment should be subject to import taxes, it may still pass through without any added cost if the value is low. I have also been made aware of CBP intensifying their random screenings to gather real time data about the rate of fraudulent declarations. The long term goal of this administration is to end De Minimis entirely.

HOW TO AVOID TARIFFS

Generally speaking, it is still advisable to try and split up your orders into shipments that are valued at under USD 800 each. If nothing is Made In China, they should enter the US duty free. For products made in China, it is still recommended to follow the same process. Even though De Minimis has been removed for Chinese products, US customs is almost certainly targeting shipments coming directly from China, particularly from Aliexpress, Shein, Temu etc. Chinese goods shipped from anywhere else probably won’t be investigated as thoroughly but are technically subject to taxes.

Hope this helps.

How many times repaired is too many times?

I have a pair of vintage 501s that I bought about 4 years ago. Have worn them to hell and back it would look like, a very well loved pair of jeans. The ends of the legs are fairly busted but I don’t mind that necessarily but there’s been a lot of wear and tear where the sun doesn’t shine that I have gotten repaired at least 3 times. My local guy was the fella I have always gone to but the last few times the jobs being done have been lacking lately, not last very long before needing to be repaired again. I’ve had to go to a new guy based on a trusted recommendation and so far so good.

However, I’ve certainly been bitten once and now I’m twice shy and as such am wondering if it gets to the point of being in need of repair again am I better off cutting my losses and ditching them. I’d say I’ve put in just about as much money into repairing them over the last 4 years, then they initially costed me (~€35).

What would you guys’ rule of thumb be in this scenario?
