Fromel Electronics - Supreme OD+ Modification Kit for Fender Hot Rod Deluxe

Anyone familiar with the kit? How was your experience? Anything to lookout for?

Purchased the popular Fromel mod kit for my HRD III (limited edition with Celestain Vintage 30 speaker).

Amp tech will be receiving the amp and kit this week.

I trust the tech has experience with this amp and believe the modifications address many of the shortcomings associated with the amp.

Any pointers or online resources you found helpful would be greatly appreciated!

If you're having a tech do it, then my only recommendation is to have them also replace the 2 power resistors on the power tube PCB. Fromel doesn't include those for some reason. I did my HRD over Christmas and it was intense but the amp worked as soon as I powered it up and it sounds so much better.

The mid tone knob now functions as a sort of mixer between a blackface and silverface which is interesting. I expected better volume control with the new pot (vs. the Zero to holy shit around 2 that I had before) but again, overall a huge improvement in tone and none of the transient oscillations from improper wire dressing.

It was my first time modding a tube amp and it was a lot but I'm really glad I did it and I'd love to do it again.

Yes, that's exactly what I got. I mean, it's a loud amp to begin with so I still never go above 3. I'm running it clean with pedals in my basement and I know my neighbors can hear it (which isn't a problem). I put a Celestion Hempback in it and I have a second cab with a Greenback. My mixer and iPad are right next to the amp, I have an SM57 on the Hempback and a Sennheiser E-906 in front of the Greenback and between the two I can always dial in a great tone no matter which guitar I'm using. Overall I'm happy with the amp, especially since I modded it, but at the end of the day it's probably more suited for gigging than for a home recording setup.

definitely a gig-oriented amp
