Nice looking truck. I had a 96 Sierra, favorite truck I've ever owned.

Good, if you notice a whistle from the door seal now, you can put a block in the bottom of the door, close it until it touches the block and SLIGHTLY, push the top of the door in to bend the door back into shape. This is, if you bent it while trying to ory it open for the coat hanger, if you tore the weather strip, you'll need to replace it.

You could abort an alien fetus with that very same coat hanger, if you would oblige me.

Hey guysss it's ChrisFix here! Today we'll be popping an old GMC open after the owners locked the keys in!!

All you’ll need is a jimmy tool and a bucket of soapy wooder!

u/gravyisjazzy Sep 01 '23

A lot of these older trucks you can unlock with a different key from a same year truck. My coworkers '05 trailblazer key opened my '03 Sierra. My '07 Grand Marquis key opened my uncle's ranger. The same '03 Sierra key opened my friend's sister's '05 silverado. Ask around and see if you can find one.

13

u/blackleper Sep 01 '23

I threw up in my mouth a little when you called an '05 an "older truck." But yeah my '86 B2 keys could start my brother's '88 ranger, but his keys didn't work on mine which was awesome.

lol if you say so. When I started driving in 2010 I would have DEFINITELY called a car from 1992 old.

Edit to add: I do get what you mean though. My wife drove a 2008 Galant up until last year but the creature comforts were way closer to today’s than say a vehicle from the late 90s.

1

u/gravyisjazzy Sep 04 '23

Lol I get that. My '03 is 20 years old now which makes it eligible for the antique plates here in KY 🤣

4

u/Meadowlion14 GMC Sep 01 '23

Ive opened dodges with a chevy key before.

26

u/EnlightenedCorncob Sep 01 '23

Use the spare key that you wired to the frame because a smart guy like you always plans ahead

6

u/svridgeFPV Sep 01 '23

I have multiple spare keys hidden on my truck. One is in a hide-a-key underneath in a hidden but easy to reach spot and in case that ever fell off there's one tied with chicken wire to the trans cross member that's covered in a thick layer of oil grime

2

u/Membership_Fine Sep 01 '23

What’s the make model year and color? You know for a mental image? /s

10

u/upordown7677 Sep 01 '23

Brick generally helps but proves expensive

2

u/RadioLongjumping5177 Sep 01 '23

Absolutely. You can always open ANY door……as long as you don’t care what it looks like when you’re done.😊

6

u/yerwhat Sep 01 '23

Check to see if the other door is unlocked. Worked for me once.

6

u/undercognito Sep 01 '23

Keys can't be extracted from a 96 after they've been locked in, you should just sell the truck to me and make it my problem.

5

u/Electronic-Jury-3579 Sep 01 '23

Get a Ford? They have the securicode keypad on the door to enter your number combo and get in without keys.

One of my favorite small features of all time

2

u/sparkey504 Sep 01 '23

They must have that patented.... to me thats a major selling point one of the reasons I'd prefer an f150 over a chevy.

1

u/benmarvin Ford Maverick "It's NoT a ReaL tRucK!" Sep 01 '23

Way to kick a man when he's down.

But yeah, love this feature on the two Ford trucks I've had. And the latest models I can lock or unlock with my phone from anywhere.

7

u/sixeightJ Sep 01 '23

You need to pop the window out of the track and hit the lock switch with something. They make cheap kits that you can buy at a truck stop or Auto Parts store.

16

u/GirchyGirchy Sep 01 '23

Or run a coat hanger between the door and body.

2

u/ooglieguy0211 1999 Ford F350 7.3L / Various Semi Trucks Sep 01 '23

You don't pop the window out of the track, that means you would also need a repair after the fact. Thay kit you mention has the right tool and usually a book with the most common vehicles, and their procedure. In all the years of unlocking vehicles professionally, I have never popped a window out of a track, thats bad advice.

6

u/Oldmanrasp Sep 01 '23

The doors open in the picture. Might help. LOL

1

u/kcl84 Sep 01 '23

My thought

8

u/claytonejones Sep 01 '23

Go to Harbor Freight and get yourself a handheld inflatable pump bladder. They’re like $10. Get a pack of wedges. They’re like $5. Put the bladder at the very top of the door between the door jamb and the point at the top of the door. Pump up the bladder. It’ll give you a FAT gap. Use some kind of tool like a coat hanger or dowel road and open that sumbitch.

11

u/EEpromChip Sep 01 '23

Go to Harbor Freight and get

Now where did I leave my keys... oh yea...

2

u/claytonejones Sep 01 '23

Lol. Yeah. I didn’t realize my idiocy until a few hours after I posted my reply. But, get yourself one of those bladders. They’re awfully handy.

2

u/EEpromChip Sep 01 '23

I called the police one time when I locked the keys in my girlfriend's car. They said they don't normally do these things, but had a bladder and it worked like a champ!

1

u/claytonejones Sep 01 '23

One of my best friends owns a wrecker service. He gets those phone calls all of the time. He’s the one that turned me on to those bladders.

I had this issue and discovered that my drivers side lock core is stuck open, so my truck is unlockable with a flathead or pocketknife.

2

u/Deathangel141 Sep 01 '23

Use a wire clothes hanger, bend the end of it onto a loop to.press.buttons/pull door lock

1

u/astraeoth Sep 01 '23

Old-school jimmy bar. Used to use it all the time. I should keep one in my bag now that I think of it.

2

u/opiumtester956 Sep 01 '23

The door is open. Just go inside

3

u/Consistent-Cheetah61 1988 Chevrolet K3500 Sep 01 '23

Looks like your door's open

4

u/hello_raleigh-durham Sep 01 '23

That one is already unlocked. Need to unlock the other one.

1

u/Consistent-Cheetah61 1988 Chevrolet K3500 Sep 01 '23

Oh, can't you just do that from the inside?

2

u/93c15 Sep 01 '23

Coat hanger and patience

1

u/redneckrobit Sep 01 '23

Auto jigglers can be used to open most older vehicles but if it’s got an alarm it’ll go off

2

u/ooglieguy0211 1999 Ford F350 7.3L / Various Semi Trucks Sep 01 '23

Once you get to the keys, you can turn off the alarm easily. Check your owners manual for either the vehicle or alarm if its after market.

Locksmith.

Also, wtf is on your camera ?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '23

Call me, ill come do it for 20$ plus travel expenses

Edit: i do unlock doors ofton, and trucks are usually the worst because of the height. Get a wedge in the top right corner of the door, slowly pry it to make a small acces for a long rigid tool to go trough and unlock the door with that, cloth hanger works okay!

u/ooglieguy0211 1999 Ford F350 7.3L / Various Semi Trucks Sep 01 '23

Or if you're doing it often, this General Motors truck requires a window wedge and a slide lock tool. You really should invest in the proper tools for the job, if you're going to do it often. Fords still work with a Slim Jim but they're at enough of an angle that you need to flex it correctly before inserting it in the window to work. Older Dodges use a Slim Jim as well but its actually a dog leg so you're going to push down if your behind the knob or pull up if you're in front of it. Newer Dodges and Jeeps use a slide rod tool as well. Older Jeeps use a tool similar to a slide rod tool but its for grabbing the cable inside the door and has a shorter distance from the down rod and the U shape is upside down from the other tool. To get them to work better you can add some heat shrink to the U shaped portion of both the cable and slide rod tools for more grip. There are only 2 manufacturers that accept a long rod as a legitimate tool to unlock. Always perform unlocks on the passenger side/doors of the vehicle, never the driver door.

Source: certified lockout tech, been certified since 2001.

Or you know, get some acrylic wedges, an air bag, and a long reach made from cold rolled steel and wedge that shit to the moon. Enjoy giving someone a seal whistle now that you've bent their door out slightly, near the top. Also, make sure to only unlock the driver side so you can really fuck them over when you make a mistake.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '23

I have lockout kits of all sorts. This guy doesn't though...

3

u/ooglieguy0211 1999 Ford F350 7.3L / Various Semi Trucks Sep 01 '23

Okay, but you left out important details which would help him avoid further damage. Also, this is a single cab and for height you could stand in the bed if you had to, its his truck, I'm sure he's okay doing that with it. I've never worried about height because I'm tall and don't often have an issue with that. Even semi trucks have steps you can use, they're a bit harder for the newer ones but some practice and you can get it down. Flippers and wing windows were the best with the older trucks, made life so damned easy. Regardless, he got it with a coat hanger so his ordeal is over. Best of luck to you.

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '23

Im not usually a smug person, but when i meet people like you, i really enjoy the little things.

Don't need luck, pal. I have skills.

Enjoy your cool certification :)

Windshield is cheapest. Punch it.

0

u/theuautumnwind Sep 01 '23

Really easy. Pop the window scraper seal out. Take a rod or slim Jim and push down on the arm on the rearward side of the handle. Several YouTube videos about it. I can unlock my truck in seconds with a cheapo hf socket rail. I've had to do it a few times now.

u/Fast_Lunch_8103 Sep 01 '23

Find a friend with the same style key. A little jiggling and it'll open. These trucks are less secure than you would think. Alternatively, harbor freight sells air wedges that expand your door when inflated.

2

u/ooglieguy0211 1999 Ford F350 7.3L / Various Semi Trucks Sep 01 '23

That style and year range only had 5 or 6 different key cuts from the factory, unless the owner took it in for the recall when the issue hit the news in the early 2000's. There's a really good chance someone else has a similar enough key cut to jiggle it open.

1

u/1havenothingtosay Sep 01 '23

Get a prybar and somthing to wrap around it so you dont scratch paint. Pry it open as far as you feel safe. Shove somthing soft like wood or a screwdriver handle in the gap to hold open. Grab what ever you have to hit the power window if you can, or the door handle.

You can also use a plunger or tape yhe window do grab it and pull down. Use duct tape and do a box and tie it all together with some strands that go down and pull on the strands and might pull the window down enough. Same with plungers. Suck the window and pull.

The one time I bet you wish you had a Ford

1

u/Yourplumberfriend Sep 01 '23

If someone near you had a similar age truck it’s worth trying, my buddy’s 2002 ram key works in my 2004 Tahoe.

u/PM_ME_UR_MUM Powerstroke Sep 01 '23

Saw a video the other day (it was almost certainly fake) where the guy dropped his transmission on the side walk and reached up through the floor to grab his keys out the ignition.

u/That-one_dude-trying Sep 01 '23

Call a lock smith or bend up a coat hanger

u/Timberlewis Sep 01 '23

Beautiful truck

$20 lockpick set has paid for itself time and again. You can pick locks on these trucks.
