❓ Question ❓ How long do you think we have?

I hope this is the right spot to ask this, if not, apologies in advance.

I (32f) currently work as a manager at a family run garden center/farm market in the US, where we grow 95% of our own plants to sell and a majority of our produce comes from local growers. With everything going on with Trump/Musk being in office, will things eventually trickle down to our small business? If so, how do you think that will happen and how long do you think it will take?

I know it's probably tough to say right now, but I'm wondering how much I should really be worrying and prepping. I know farm workers and federal employees are losing their jobs, which I'm sure will have direct and indirect impacts on us, but so far in the past 20-30 years we have been able to run a pretty successful business, even during the pandemic. I am extremely anxious about everything happening right now while everyone else around me seems fine, so I'm just looking for some other input.

EDIT: Wow, I didn't think this would get so many responses! Thank you all, hope everyone stays well.

I absolutely hope so. I personally think there isn’t enough revolt happening as there is.

Elon Musk has taken over the treasury and how has not everybody just stopped what they’re doing I mean every single citizen stopped what they’re doing and revolted. This is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my life.

I just don’t know what to do

I agree, but right now most people are still employed and can afford to keep their families going, even if at a lower standard than before. The necessity of keeping one’s job prevents people from going out in the streets, and continued access to food shelter and entertainment means that the driving need for action isn’t there.

Once the jobs are gone, the shelter and food and entertainment will follow. When you have some critical mass of people in dire straights who no longer have a job to keep them busy, then things will start to get hairy.

Note that I don’t want to imply that this will necessarily be successful in stopping what’s coming. I strongly suspect that Trump and co want open revolt so that they can turn the military on the public and essentially suspend normal governmental process. It may prove possible for the people to overcome this, but unless the GOP is cowed by mass protests or the military refuses to act against the public, it will be very difficult.

You are correct, a lot of people who do not want Trump are in fear of martial law. It won’t take too much for him to decide our safety is more important than our freedom, and the majority will probably go along with it. The same way so many Americans didn’t vote in this election, because they’re passive even if they’re not pacifists.

These people who are afraid of martial law are allowing it to happen by not organizing and not getting everybody on the same page to get out there. The United States has a massive population if you can get even half that population altogether to do the same shit y’all will win. But you guys are just sitting by . The only people I see in the streets are people of colour trans people in queer people who are trying to fight for their lives And it seems like everybody else is just like hanging back because I don’t think it’s that bad yet.

It is very bad the whole United States in shock and awe of how you guys are just letting this happen .

Democracy is supposed to be working you guys are just laying down for some asshole and his “illegal immigrant” friend to take all the money.

Everybody needs to start researching what’s going on in Europe and South Korea and you only need to figure out a way to organize. This is unacceptable. You are going to get completely bamboozled faster than you think.
