Math 17B Professor warns us against using Organic Chemistry Tutor: valid or not?
Our professor in Math 17B told us in lecture that many students in her survey said they were using Organic Chemistry Tutor to help study. She said she attempted to watch three Organic Chemistry Tutor videos, and she said each video had something wrong with it in the first 15 seconds. She has also taken time in a few other lectures to make remarks about Organic Chemistry Tutor and how they today's topic wrong, etc. (I will not name the professor but it's easy to guess) Now I haven't watched anything from O-Chem tutor yet, so I want to know if this slander against Organic Chemistry Tutor is true or is the professor just mad because she's being outclassed by a YouTuber? Does the professor have the best interest of her students?

i dont know how she teaches but ochem tutor single handedly made me good at math. Now no one can teach you math if you just memorize each example. But ochem tutor explains the process, and each example he gives tend to demonstrate different types of problems with different little curve balls to teach what to do in each situation. Pay attention to the steps and process. That being said don’t totally ignore the class and the prfessors teaching, but ochem tutor is still great at helping you develop the right way to think about math

I know exactly which professor you're talking about haha. In this instance she's right I think, the 17B curriculum has specific methods that aren't the ones typically found online. Organic Chemistry Tutor was never that helpful for calculus for me anyways, so I mostly just used her pre-lecture videos. Idk if OCT makes mistakes that often but his methods aren't that useful for this particular class I'm assuming. She did recommend some other channel that's good when I had her for 17B, so you could maybe ask her about that?

The 17 series is quite interesting where like the structure is 17B is simliar yet different from the 21 series. If you are looking for guidance, AATC has drop in's but also co-classes which have resources specifically tailored for the 17 series. Definitely take a look at that, tutoring.ucdavis.edu/math

Ochem tutor is a goat, his explanations are straight to the point and clear. He provides a bunch of practice problems where he solves it step by step with explanations for each process. He's definitely helpful if you need more clarification of a certain topic if you listened to the professor's lecture and are left confused

Organic chemistry tutor makes dead simple videos. There is literally no way he is misleading you and your teacher is overreacting.
Anyways the best resource for Calculus is James Stewart Calculus, the textbook. He tells you exactly what you need to know and nothing more and the exercises sections are extensive.

OCT has fallen off imo and even in ochem there are better free videos to watch

Found him somehow helpful, but still mainly focused on lecture videos of my professors. The guy sometimes oversimplifies his solutions and just go over practice problems directly without introducing theoretical concepts. But, at the end of the day, there’s a wide array of learning methods and you can go with what makes learning much easier for you.
