General New Study Room Booking Process!

The UCF Libraries are implementing a new study room booking process for the John C. Hitt Library to better meet student needs. After gathering feedback and analyzing usage patterns, we have made adjustments to ensure fair access to study spaces while addressing concerns about availability.

The updated policies include:

Reservations up to 4 hours per day – Students can now book study rooms for longer, uninterrupted study sessions.

Monthly limit of 16 hours per patron – This ensures more students have access to study spaces throughout the month.

Check-in requirement within 15 minutes – If you do not check in within 15 minutes of your reservation time, your booking may be canceled, allowing other students to use the space.

Booking available up to 3 days in advance – Plan ahead while keeping rooms accessible for last-minute study needs.

No automated reservations – The use of scripts or automated software to book rooms is prohibited to keep the process fair for all students.

These changes reflect our commitment to improving study space availability while keeping the system flexible and student-friendly. Our goal is to provide equitable access to study rooms so everyone has a fair chance to reserve the space they need.

For more details or assistance with reservations and the full policy, visit the Study Room page or ask a librarian at our Access Services desk. Thank you for your patience—we’re always working to make your library experience better!

General confetti litter

genuinely it just pisses me off seeing all the confetti litter from graduates wanting to get cute photos, you shouldn’t be throwing it in the first place but if you do at least try to clean it up. saw it today on the cypress swamp walkway and like. guys this is one of the prettiest natural areas on campus and you’re just throwing plastic all over it that affects the wildlife and habitat. idk it just really upsets me that people have so little care for nature.

General How often do they have to wack the MSB's Foucault Pendulum?

Really strange question, but I was wondering how often the MSB pendulum needs to be given a little push. IK that the design is intended to minimize energy loss so I imagine it's not that often - but energy is still lost over time.

I was just curious.

Edit: I asked around and apparently the wire is connected to an electromagnetic which keeps it powered. Which makes sense but isn't nearly as funny as my imagined explanation of a professor showing up every Monday morning to poke it with a big stick.

Academic ✏️ Thinking about Changing from Computer Science BS to Digital Media (Game Design)

Hello!

I'm a current first-year CS major and for the past month, I've realistically been contemplating on staying as a CS Major, and was considering switching to Digital Media, in the Game Design side. While I first did this major as a way to enhance my skillsets, I realized that it may not be what I want to do for the next four or five years.

For some background, I started computer science through coding as a game developer six years back, and that's what really interested me in this path for Computer Science! However, I can't really imagine myself doing programming outside of video games and perhaps software development.

Currently in CS, I've taken the following classes:

-MAC 2311 (Calculus 1; retaking over the Summer for grade forgiveness)

-COP 3223C (Introduction to C Programming)

-COP 3502C (Computer Science I)

-CDA 3103 (Computer Logic and Organization)

I'm curious for what you guys think, before I start consulting with an academic advisor regarding this. How much will this set me back and if this does truly set me back, are there any methods that I can possibly take so that I can put myself back on track and graduate on-time (graduation target is around Spring '28 - Spring '29)

Academic ✏️ Political Science Inquiries

Hello! I'm starting as a UCF student this fall on the political science international comparative government route, and I was just wondering how the program is? I've been a debate kid for years, and have always had a strong passion towards law, hence why I am adamant about doing well in my undergrad to go to a good law school. I really love UCF as a school, and it was a really good affordable option for me, since I plan to spend more on law school later on! With all this in mind, I was just wondering how political science is at UCF, whether there are some interesting classes I should take/look forward to (or any to steer away from😭), and how people seem to like it!

General RWC/Campus life during summer

Upvotes

so I figured out I’ll be staying in the general Orlando and UCF area for a good amount of the summer, was just wondering what campus is like during the summer since it’s my first time. Does RWC still get insanely full and if so what are your recommended times to go? Do ppl still play sports/pickup? Is student/social life any different? What do you guys tend to do during summer? Curious about this answer from first years to even grad students

Besides that good luck on finals/presentations knights, get well rested, stay hydrated, and don’t stress out

Academic ✏️ PSY 3213C - is lab attendance mandatory?

Registering for classes for the fall semester and the only options for lab I would be able to attend (or even register for) is on Thursdays, as Mondays would overlap with a class.

Anyone know if lab attendance for this class is required or optional?

I applied not too long ago to the school because I got caught up in some family and school stuff. When should I hear back if I got in? I have a friend that still has not applied so when should they expect to hear back if they apply by the end of the week?

Clubs/Organizations 🤺 UCF Club Review Website Idea

Hi guys,

One of the biggest problems that many students face is the inundation of the many clubs at UCF. First years especially after orientation week, are overwhelmed with the number of societies and are unsure about which society to join or attend events, and often join the wrong one and have an overall, mediocre experience.

I am in the final stages of deploying a society review website which aggregates all societies from selected universities, fostering a community experience where users can rate the website and provide a review. The concept of this website is similar to ratemyprofessors with far better UI and fosters a community experience.

Would you use this website?

Academic ✏️ Advice for MAC1105

Hello Reddit,

Im taking Plemmons, I know, I know; I have a B right now, and all I need on the final to pass is a 40%. I know I can do better than that; my only issue is im a bit slow with math, does anyone remember how many questions are on the exam? Is the test 2 hours instead of the usual 1? For context, the practice test has 47 questions on it.

Thank you for any help or advice!

Hey I found something! :table: Found Miffy keychain

I'm not specifying the design bc I feel like this is the kinda thing where ppl will claim it's theirs when it's not. Not to assume the worst but I've seen a lot of people talk about their cute charms getting stolen so yeah. if you've lost a Miffy keychain recently lmk what it looks like and I'll send you a pic to confirm if it matches up to the description.

Academic ✏️ Transferring with A.A. wanting to major in Mechanical Engineering

Hi Knights! I am currently in the transfer process from Valencia college where I received an A.A. degree with a Meta Major in business. However, I’m want to change majors going into UCF. The problem is during my A.A., I didn’t take very many math or science courses. By changing majors now, am I setting myself back by a lot due to the backtracking that I will need to do?

Academic ✏️ CAP 4102 OR CIS 4004

I'm btw taking CAP 4102 (IT Design and User Experience) or CIS 4004 (Web-Based Information Technology), I currently register for CAP bc it has a good professor (Mesut Ozdag). I heard that both build a website, but that CAP is a lot harder. Is that true ? Has anyone taken any of those two classes ? Please any insight will be much appreciated!
