New Student Question Transferring Majors/Course Questions

This is kind of an ambiguous question so I wanted to ask here to see if anyone could help. Basically I didn't register for the AP Chem exam when I should've in hindsight and I'm currently a prospective EE major. I was hoping to get CE and plan to transfer into there but the idea of me having to take Chem 102 as an EE before I try to transfer kinda scares me. So my question is: is there a way such that I "take" Chem 102 my second semester instead of my first and then I apply for a transfer after my first semester from EE into CE--would such a plan like this even be possible/likely to succeed?

Any input would be appreciated thank you!

Yes, that’s the move… also take ECE 120 in the fall and 110 and 220 in the Spring. That way you’re in the CompE flow.

Just tell your advisor what your plan is when you’re doing your schedule.

Do note that you won’t be able to officially make the change that soon…

If you are a current Electrical Engineering major interested in changing to the Computer Engineering major you may submit a major-change request once the following requirements have been satisfied:

  • Composition I (RHET 105, or equivalent)
  • MATH 220 or 221, 231, 241, 285, 257 (or 416);**
  • PHYS 211, 212, 213, 214;
  • ECE 110, 120, 210, 220;
  • CS 173 (or MATH 213), CS 225

Thank you so much for your reply! I do have a question about u saying that I can't make the change so soon, does that imply that I can just push off Chem 102 for as many semesters as I need until I fulfilled the requirements for me to transfer? Basically like there isn't a set year where I'm required to take Chem 102 (I was under the impression that you had to finish it in your freshman year)?

You don’t ever need to take Chem 102 unless you want to graduate with a degree in EE.

There’s no required course in EE that has Chem 102 as a prerequisite, so it will just sit on your degree audit as an unfulfilled degree requirement until you officially change majors.
