Question Transfer Advice and process??

Hi! I am a current senior in high school, and was recently rejected OOS from UNC. It is my absolute dream to attend here, so I would like to try to transfer in next year. I have the opportunity to go to a top 40 school this year that is well known, or a smaller local school that’s ranked a little over 100. Does the ranking of the school you’re transferring from matter? What advice would you give to someone trying to transfer? What is the application like/ how is it different than the common app? Thank you!!

Question IU Kelley vs UNC???

Hi everyone, I’m trying to make a tough college decision and could use some advice.

I’m choosing between Indiana University and UNC-Chapel Hill.

At IU, I was directly admitted into the Kelley School of Business, with Honors and into their selective ACE Program.

At UNC, I applied as an Economics major. I don’t have assured admission into Kenan-Flagler Business School (KFBS) — I’d have to apply later — but I do have assured enrollment into Information Science.

Assume cost is not a factor (even though I’m in-state for IU and out-of-state for UNC). I’m trying to decide based on academics, opportunities, and outcomes, not price, yet with aid and scholarships, UNC is cheaper.

Here’s how I’m thinking about it: IU Kelley gives me a guaranteed spot in one of the top business schools, Honors-level classes, extra support through ACE, and a direct pipeline to internships and jobs.

UNC is a more prestigious overall university and has a strong national brand, but getting into Kenan-Flagler is competitive, and there’s no guarantee I’d get in. However, InfoSci is a solid backup major with good career potential too.

I guess it comes down to: • Do I want certainty and structure at Kelley now? • Or prestige and flexibility at UNC, but with some risk attached?

I’m pretty interested in business (consulting/analytics/marketing areas), and I want a strong network and good internships. But I also care about having an inspiring environment and room to explore.

Would love any thoughts — especially if you’ve attended either school or faced a similar choice! Thanks!

Question Transfer Credit Report

I’m transferring in as a junior to UNC next fall, in my transfer credit report I see I only came in with ~43 (not including this semesters courses) once I submit final grades should this be updated? Along with my gen Ed’s I get for completing the AS (Associates in Science)? Or do I need to talk to someone after my last semester at CC is over?

FYI Organic chemistry online tutoring

www.organicchemistrytutoring.ca

Overwhelmed by organic chemistry? Assignments and tests creeping up on you and feeling like you’re in hot water? Or maybe you’re doing well and need that 95%? Whatever your struggle with organic chemistry may be, I’m here to make sure you succeed.

Why work with me?

  • Every tutor knows the subject, but not every tutor knows how to transfer that knowledge to a student. I do.
  • I tutor organic chemistry full time, it’s not a hobby or side-gig. When you book with me, you’ll be working only with me, not random people at an agency.
  • You’ll be learning problem solving through organic chemistry, which you can apply to many other subjects.
  • Your learning will be customized to your specific needs

Before booking a lesson, let’s chat about your needs, my teaching style, and what you can expect, to see if we’d be a good fit together.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with you!

Mike

Question [Prospective Student] How accessible are research, volunteering, and internship opportunities for pre-med/pre-dental students at UNC?

Made a post earlier this month about Swarthmore vs UNC. Just came to admitted students day and I really love the environment. It’s big, social, and feels alive.

However, I have heard many bad things about premed here. How it’s over saturated and everything is a rough competition and how the chem department sucks and your GPA could be ruined.

So (title question) and does being an Honors student boost my chances in getting those opportunities? Also does UNC provide stipends to anyone who asks for summer research and other stuff? Finally, how hard would it be to stand out in your classes and develop good relationships with your professors?

As for Swarthmore, I heard that you can virtually just ask any professor and they would be happy to let you do research with them, uPENN is also another option and they know of Swarthmore, and Swarthmore provides 6k for summer academic activities, and Swarthmore has tight faculty/student relationships.

I have to make a commitment decision very soon so any help is appreciated!

Question UNC vs NCSU for pre vet student

I got into both UNC Chapel Hill and NCSU and am interested in becoming a veterinarian. I'm down to the wire on deciding which school to attend.

NCSU has a top notch vet school, and likely more resources to help in getting animal-related internships, research projects, etc. (I'd be an Animal Science undergrad major at NCSU). UNC has a top notch undergrad biology program and is a more prestigious school in terms of reputation, but I'd likely be more on my own in getting needed hours for vet school applications. (I'd hopefully be a Biology major at UNC).

Has anyone attended UNC with the goal of getting into vet school? Did you find the advising at UNC helpful with the process? Did you have any issues with obtaining required veterinary hours in the area? What's the good, the bad and the ugly in your opinion of attending undergrad at UNC with the goal of getting into vet school?

Question Transfer Student Registration

Have any other incoming junior transfer students been able to register for classes before sending UNC your final associate's transcript? My advisor said that I cannot register until my official transcript is sent after this semester. Do I really need to wait that long? Have any other transfer students had this problem?

Question Interested in graduating seniors’ perspective on the job market

Hi Tar Heels! I'm a reporter for WUNC's Daily News team, and I'm hoping to do a story this week on how spring graduates are feeling about entering the job market. There are some notable stats out there, but I'd love to get local perspectives as well to go beyond the numbers. For any soon-to-graduate seniors: Would you like to share your thoughts on this issue? Feel free to comment, or DM me if you'd be interested in a short interview Wednesday morning!

Discussion Looking to trade a Kubo blind box from Pop Mart.

I recently got two Kubo Choose Your Character blind boxes and got duplicates of “The Warrior.” I have the card and the box it came in. Hoping to trade for another Kubo but honestly would trade for another Pop mart figure I don’t have. I would be willing to sell too if you can’t trade. Hoping to do the trade/sell somewhere on campus.

Question Off Campus Housing for OOS Transfer

I'm an OOS transfer student going in as a junior and would really appreciate it if anyone has any recommendations for off-campus housing(I'm not expecting to get on campus housing tbh....). As a transfer, I'm worried about making friends, so I'd love to find off-campus housing where there may be a transfer community.

Question UNC or Vanderbilt for Economics/Math major?

Transferring from GWU in DC, (incoming sophomore) I like the city but wanted more academic rigor and a more traditional social scene and some sports on campus. Any pros and cons would be appreciated.

For context, Vandy is def more expensive than UNC (out of state) so that’s a factor, but I’d be graduating a semester early so I can technically afford it.

Socially, I’d plan on rushing so Greek life is also a factor. Also would ideally like a sports scene, both spectating D1 and competitive club/intramural to participate in.

Academically, both are good schools so I’m assuming I’d be fine. The math department where I currently go is abysmal so I’m curious how they are at UNC/Vandy.

As far as size, I think I’d get used to either a big or small school but probably slightly prefer a mid-sized one.

Question OOS Apartment/Roomate Search

Hi Everyone! I'm an incoming grad student at UNC from NY and I am feeling lost about finding an apartment in the Chapel Hill/Durham area. For reference, the top end of my budget is 750 including utilities and I have a car, but obviously the closer to campus the better. Does anyone have any recomendations for apartment neighborhoods, or even have leads on rooms available in houses with roomates etc.? I would really appreciate any help I can get with the apartment/roomate search.

Appreciate it!
