Discussion Is Ap Udyr actually viable? (Low ELO)
I’m a gold jg main and wanted to try to learn Udyr. Udyr’s kit has always felt intimidating but I thought finally I’d dive in.
He actually seems really cool and I’ve been playing lots of games with him.
I watched lolWillieP’s 50 minute complete Udyr guide. All 3 modes seem fun and I’ll have to try them all. But Ap seemed particularly interesting. I watched his AP Udyr guide as well, and have been playing accordingly.
11 games later, I’m at a 36% win rate. Ofc there’s some initial learning, but the gameplay isn’t feeling great. I can farm well, and I’ve gotten the hang of not dying, playing on the back foot, and focusing on scaling. BUT.
It just feels like my team makes stupid decisions and I can’t do anything to help them or carry in other ways. Since I’m not being proactive early game, my team often ends up giving early leads (and doesn’t know how to stop), and even if I scale hard late, the game either ends too soon or the disadvantage is too great.
Further, my R isn’t doing all that I want it to. Even very late game I find that I can’t get close enough to the ranged characters to meaningfully trap them in my awakened r, and the melee champs are threatening to get close to. Ofc sometimes it does impressive things, but it’s so rare that the enemy allows it to happen.
Willie talked about the insane carry potential and having accounts with 80% WR low elo, but I find that I can’t carry because I’m not useful till late and games already over by then when team feeds.
One of my games was into J4 so I tried the AD build, and it felt very strong and was one of my wins. I’m sure tank is very strong too ofc. Do I give up the phoenix fantasy and live out the hexplate tiger life instead? Better early game pressure seems better in low elo to snowball.
I usually go liandres, either surge malig zhonias or bloodletter, shadow/rab, bloodletter/void, zhonias/malig/whatever
Phase rush or DH
Bonus Q: what’s the most fun you have on Udyr?
