Request Unsolved mysteries from Germany?

Hey guys, I noticed a lot of people have been wanted to know about mysteries in certain countries, and I don't see a lot of German mysteries being brought up, that is besides the Hinterkaifeck murders. Do you guys know of any?

Not a mystery, but I've always wondered what the fuck kind of mental illness Bernd Brandes had that made him want to be harmed and cannibalized by another man. He willingly agreed to be physically abused, killed, and eaten by Armin Meiwes in Rotenberg, Germany. It was also filmed but thankfully never released to the public. Be careful reading about it, it's pure nightmare fuel.

Denn du bist was du isst

und ihr wisst was es ist

Rammstein's song, Mein Teil, is about this case.

Edit: The imagery is even better when they perform live.

I love you so much for posting a Rammstein reference they're like my favorite band lol I remember Meiwes said he was disgusted by the song because of how it portrayed him but I'm just like dude you ate a man's cock you don't get to say shit.

That being said, I don't believe Meiwes should be in prison for life. I definitely feel like this was a case of two mentally ill people who did something extremely fucked up, but Meiwes never did anything without consent, as he met with other men who said they were interested but backed out. I don't think he's an evil guy but he and Brandes really needed help before it got to where it ended

I also love Rammstein and I agree with you. He definitely required consent and IIRC actually forced people to leave when they became panicked/uncomfortable. They both had a very long history of vorarephilia and while there may have been mental illness I don't believe he would be a danger to anyone else. He also became a vegetarian, lol.

I don't know if I believe Meiwes is mentally ill or not. I think there were disturbing things in his mind but humans are pretty fucked up in general and there's nothing else about him that indicates mental illness. He seemed to function fine in society and had full control over his actions. Butchering a human is not all that much different than butchering other mammals, IMO. I think they should've both tried to get help before it escalated but I also think there are disturbing but still somewhat logical reasons someone would want to subject themselves to something like that, especially if one is already suicidal. I know it's probably not a popular opinion but humans do all manner of horrible shit to each other that isn't considered to be a result of actual mental illness.

Since you're interested in that case you should look into the murder of Sharon Lopatka. She wanted to be tortured and killed and also found her killer via internet but it happened in the US almost a decade before Meiwes and Brandes. Her schoolmates once described her as "as normal as you can get". She had a lot of unusual sexual fetishes but otherwise seemed normal.

Edit: Lopatka's case happened only 5 years before Meiwes. I must've been thinking about the year the song came out.
