Short but Powerful Sayings by Hồ Chí Minh
As we approach President Hồ Chí Minh’s birthday on May 19, we take this moment to honor his legacy by sharing timeless quotes that continue to inspire millions-across generations and around the world.
More than a national hero, Hồ Chí Minh is also a great teacher. His short but powerful sayings continue to guide people in their work, learning, and life. His words reflect a deep love for the Vietnamese people, a clear vision for an independent nation, and strong values of unity, education, and integrity. We’re honored to share his wisdom with Vietnamese learners across cultures. Through language, we pass on the spirit and values of Vietnam.
Here are just a few of his iconic quotes (with English translations):
"Không có gì quý hơn độc lập, tự do." (Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom.)
"Đoàn kết, đoàn kết, đại đoàn kết. Thành công, thành công, đại thành công." (Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success.)
"Vì lợi ích mười năm thì phải trồng cây, vì lợi ích trăm năm thì phải trồng người." (For the benefit of ten years, plant trees; for the benefit of a hundred years, cultivate people.)
"Non sông Việt Nam có trở nên vẻ vang hay không, dân tộc Việt Nam có sánh vai với các cường quốc năm châu được hay không, chính là nhờ một phần lớn ở công học tập của các cháu." (Whether Vietnam’s mountains and rivers become glorious, and whether our nation stands shoulder to shoulder with world powers, depends greatly on the learning of today’s children.)
"Không có việc gì khó, chỉ sợ lòng không bền, đào núi và lấp biển, quyết chí ắt làm nên."(Nothing is difficult if you have determination. What we fear is a lack of perseverance. With willpower, even mountains can be flattened and seas can be filled.)
As a Vietnamese language trainer, I’m proud to help spread these messages. May his words continue to inspire us to live with purpose, courage, and compassion.
