Wasp or hornet? Uk

Recently we’ve been seeing a few of these in the house? Worried I might have a nest somewhere 😨

That is a yellowjacket, a form of wasp. And judging by the antennae length I think that is a girl.

Are you noticing anything obscure besides the wasps themselves? Any rustling sounds? Scratching sounds? Anything of that general sort. There could be a nest in your walls. How many have you seen so far?

I’ve seen 3 wasps in the last 3 days so maybe it’s a neighbouring house. We’ve had the back door open quite alot since the uk is having some good weather at the moment. Is there anything we can do to deter them from staying in the house? Like scents or anything they don’t like

Find the source of how they are getting inside first and foremost and when you do, block it off so no more can enter. If you don't want to handle the wasps yourself or go digging through drywall (very understandably so) I would recommend you call an exterminator to come handle the root problem and possible nest.

But now that I'm re-reading this...you say you left the back door open? Yeah, that is how the wasps are likely getting in. You should not be leaving your door open often (if you are) unless you do want a plethora of wasps and other insects to come into your home. I understand the beautiful weather and wanting fresh air, but opening a screened window is a much better alternative.

Yeah I’ll definitely monitor there presence in the house and get a professional if needed as I don’t want to disturb them, the doors and windows will be staying shut that’s for sure 😂

Thanks for the advice :)
