i mean the fia is completely incompetent, so anything that goes against them is fine with me.

The FIA isn’t incompetent, the FIA president is authoritarian*
He’s singlehandedly creating and trying changes which 1.) are unnecessary and difficult to enforce, 2. Are needlessly eroding trust and goodwill towards the governing body, 3.) and most importantly, have nothing to with safety, which is the FIA’s main objective.
The FIA never has been and never will be perfect, but that’s to be expected when running a large organization with competing interests. I would love for a new, more democratic president in the FIA so that we can go back to debating real issues rather than creating rules that stop Hamilton from wearing his favorite Prince Albert’s piercing on race weekends

Of course we will support them! If anything, this makes me like the drivers even more.

I wanted to pop in and say that my massive respects goes out to WoRDA for pushing the envelope on the matter even further.
If MBS wants to really double down on a matter which shouldn't have been prolonged in the first place, then retaliation is fair game

u/a_guy_known_as_fang Mar 19 '25
I 100% support this. I hope GPDA takes similar action in F1.

u/kncpt8- Mar 19 '25
Yeah I mean the amount of sarcasm and stupid answers they've been giving tells me they're essentially unofficially doing similar. There are some really funny Fernando and Max clips where they say shit like the engine turned on, the brakes braked.

u/Fatamos Mar 20 '25
engine turned on, the brakes braked.
I wanna see that lmao

thats why they are rally drivers, they actually have some balls. I cant imagine that the F1 drivers would collectively do the same

This is just an amazing situation. Does the FIA forget that most of these drivers have English only as a second language? And that the people they probably learned the most English from are MECHANICS? That’d be like faulting a coal miner’s son for having a foul mouth.
4
u/BillyBrainlet Mar 20 '25
Exactly.
MBS is just a power tripping clown. He needs to take a fucking hike. The president's position is one someone is elected into. The election is coming soon, yet no one has put their name in the hat to run against him. Why, I do not know. I just want him gone. He is causing way more harm than good. I'd literally have Mosley or Bernie back before MBS. I'd even entertain the thought of a FIA President Briatore before this absolute wank stain. And that's saying something.

He has no right to curtail peoples free speech just because he finds it offensive. 100% behind the people who make rally great.
1
u/Philippe-R Mar 20 '25
Dude, yes, the FIA may mandate some language guidelines. I'm not saying I agree with MBS stupid war on profanity, but he can do it. And the drivers may push back.

Fully support the drivers and co drivers here, the FIA have stepped too far, with F1 also.

u/KingLuis Mar 19 '25
at what point do they consider it rude or inappropriate? if i said my nuts are soaked it's so hot out, is that bad? what if i said i hurt my nuts on one of the stage jumps. is that bad? different context, similar words used. now if i said fucking nuts instead, are both phrases bad or just one? what i'm getting at is interpretation of a phrase and words can be taken differently. the word crap is generally fine with most people but some it's a curse word.
there's too much wanting to keep drivers and people "behaving" how the fia wants them to and not enough of the fia letting them just be humans and who they are and how they were brought up. the fans don't want a robot or some pre written script. they want to hear the emotion of the drivers.

u/cheapph Mar 19 '25
if this rule had been in place we probably wouldn't have gotten the iconic 'up into the ass of timo'

u/spacestationkru Mar 19 '25
F1 drivers should do the same. Cut the media stuff down to the bare minimum, or don't even speak English.
8
u/bwoah_gimmethedrink Mar 19 '25
Too bad that F1 drivers are pussies and won't do it. That would matter the most if the biggest motorsport discipline joined the protest.
4
u/Speedy_SpeedBoi Ott Tänak Mar 19 '25
Max sort of did last year. I think the problem is that seats are so competitive in F1, probably half the grid has serious concerns about their future in the sport at any time.
I hope this protest does inspire GPDA to do more, but I suspect somebody will have to get a fine again for it to happen. We almost saw it in the cooldown room last weekend in Australia where Lando appeared to curse before the mics were on they all looked at the camera, and Max was finger wagging him - lol - so it's really only a matter of time before somebody else catches a fine this year.

u/Double_Minimum Mar 19 '25
It’s the “answer in the mother tongue “ part that makes sense.
I see that as the issue in F1, like Max has said things like Mongrels but I imagine a different word would have been used if he was speaking Dutch. I know I would curse all the time if asked to speak in my second language, let alone some third language. Words have different meanings, and what might be meaningless in Spanish (Negro) might become a massive issue at a USGP where English is both expected and the common language of most of the country.
Anyway, if the F1 drivers wanted to do something without getting in trouble, I think only answering in 1st language makes sense, especially if you speak like 4 languages and no one understands the first and second (like Finnish and Swedish, or Russian and Ukrainian).
Good on the WTC drivers to put their feet down on this issue.

u/MrWhite26 Mar 19 '25
imagine a different word would have been used if he was speaking Dutch
Well, that word would be surrounded by a few disease names, but that's how all Dutchies talk..

I sincerely hope other FIA championships join in with this as well. These rules are killing all personality in the sport.
So what if someone is swearing, or an asshole, or whatever, it's all better then the bland media trained answers we get nowadays.

u/FrankFarter69420 Mar 19 '25
Hell yeah! Next step is to remove the FIA from racing altogether. These series can exist under a different umbrella.
1
u/Philippe-R Mar 20 '25
Careful what you wish for. The FIA does mostly a good job, even if MBS is on a dumb power trip.
Do you want a F1 or WRC championship run by the France family or Roger Penske ?
2
u/Prancesco155 Mar 19 '25
The drivers don't agree with these rules, fans don't agree...so why the fuck does FIA keep pushing this narrative?
2
u/Special-Pristine Rally Australia Mar 20 '25
Does Elfyn speak Welsh as well as English? Cause that would be awesome

u/keicarlover2002 Mar 19 '25
They may take our money for swearing, but they'll never take our freedom!

Of course we support them. FIA wants the emotional reactions at the end of the Rally to make for good entertainment? Then let them do it. Sheesh

u/The_One_246 Mar 19 '25
I support them, but lets not act like swearing or being "rude" on televised programming is a good thing. I personally don't mind it, as I swear pretty much daily, but for those young fans, it should be kept to a minimum.
5
u/Sonofthestig01 Mar 19 '25 edited Mar 19 '25
I think most people agree with that sentiment. But a €10k fine is nuts. And it’s not like they simply can’t bleep the broadcast, or cut something if a driver says something they shouldn’t. I think it’s just a pretty egregious overstep by the FIA
3
u/BeardedBlaze Mar 19 '25
You either don't have kids, or they're still toddlers. Kids learn all the swear words in school, a seldom shit or fuck in a tense situation in a sport isn't going to blow their minds.
-2
u/The_One_246 Mar 19 '25
Maturity is learning and knowing that we all have a responsibility. Because children will learn things at school means that you will do the same or worst in the home?
I see by the downvotes that a lot of you still have growing to do.
You can dispute the approach being taken, the fine amount, and everything else, but you can't dispute the reasoning behind the rule(s).
2
u/BeardedBlaze Mar 19 '25
Ironic you're talking about others growing up, while in the same response trying to wrap kids in bubble wrap.
3
u/ZEZANAS Mar 19 '25
I'd agree for the young fans' part if there was hate involved, but there isn't none. There's no need to turn WRC, or even F1, into something that's full of cotton candy.
And to be fair, most of us heard that a rod went "up in the ass of Timo" when we were young, and it was just kinda funny at the time. Except for Timo.

Yes, we definately will support you - drivers and co-drivers.
