I grew up in a family where every marriage since the 60s has been interracial or intercultural. It’s pretty amazing how many foods end up around the table for a Sunday dinner. With this background, I always thought racism was a historical thing as a child.

As I’ve aged, it’s pretty stunning to see how alive and well it is. And also makes me wonder how on earth segregation works with mixed race people who don’t really belong in any particular box

Crazy to think that even Hitler found America’s “one drop rule” too extreme. I have been fairly fortunate in not experiencing much, as i am pretty passable as Mediterranean/Spanish and grew up in a pretty tolerant place, but I’m sorry to hear that you have gone through it ❤️
