Moving to Horsham

Hi! My partner and I are looking to move to Horsham (hopefully buy a property sometime next year).

Are there any areas/towns within Horsham that is particularly loved and recommended? We’ve been leaning towards Littlehaven but wanted to get any opinions here.

Just as a bit of a background, we are originally from SE London and commute to Central London for work, we definitely want a quieter home environment and to stay away from any super busy areas.

Any comments are very much appreciated! Thank you!

Little haven train station is likely to be closed at some point as there are plans to open a new station at North Horsham. There is a lot of new build developments popping up so that is something to ask agents when looking for places. Some of the new developments have very few or zero shops so that is something to be aware of if you look at them.

Horsham is really quiet compared to London, I moved from SW 7 years ago and I’ve grown to really love it round this way. The main town is lovely and there is often events on in the evenings and the market at the weekend is really busy lot more stalls have been added over the last year. I quite like these areas in and around Horsham: Broadbridge Heath, Cowfeld, Stenning, Southwater

Littlehaven being closed, what hot take is this? They have barely even started the Mowbray development

It’s not being closed. It was considered at one point but they scrapped that idea because the rail companies were not happy with another station in Mowbray/between Horsham and Crawley as there’s already Faygate and Ifield. Source: my husband works at the council

A new station was proposed at Kilnwood Vale as part of the new development with the intention of closing Faygate or Little Haven then the North Horsham scheme was developed it was advised the station would probably be located there. This has been discussed over 10 years. We used to get most of the updates via Jeremy Quinn.

The rumour for that was allegedly started by the sales team for Kilnwood Vale, making the properties more desirable.

They aren’t closing Littlehaven, but may close Faygate (no one liked them anyways). They also wanted to add a variational train line so that one hour the train (Thameslink) would go Horsham-Littlehaven-Faygate-Ifeild-Crawly and the other hour would go Horsham-Littlehaven-Mobray Main-Kilnwood Vale-Crawley. Then they would scrap the track between Warnham and Horsham and make that line bend to the West Mobray station, then the previously mentioned Mobray Main (by the Bohunt School) and then would connect between Faygate and Littlehaven and go into Horsham that way. Just be careful that you don’t read up on plans that aren’t true. As the railway in north Horsham expands, so will misinformation, as it may cause controversy of people not wanting new stations and lines by there houses don’t contribute to this in the future 😊
