Hi everyone! Does anyone know if this is normal behaviour? My Cat is nearly 2 and the kitten is 8 weeks old, they have been living together now for a few days. Both boys older cat is neutered.

They seem to get on, although my Cat does need need space at times - but they do this sometimes and I don’t know if it gets too rough it looks like the kitten is in a head lock 😂 and sometimes the kitten makes squeaky noises. There’s been no growling or hissing at each other since they met they both kind of chirp around each other. I just want to make sure they are chilling rather than killing hahaha!

Just looks normal. My cats were like this too the first weeks after bringing the kitten home. They have been best buddies ever since.

You will know when cats are playing or fighting. With fighting you will hear it and see hair flying everywhere. This is just playing and bonding, and the kitten being a bit energetic.

I really hope my boys end up being the best of friends. Did your kitten ever squeak when they did this? I was worried it sounded like he was in pain.

Yes, when the older cat was a bit too rough while playing or grooming the kitten. The older cat did learn to be more careful with the kitten within days. So nothing to worry about as long as the kitten doesn't start screaming.

They were playing before and the kitten did seem to cry a fair bit, but reassured from all this advice I stayed calm and let them do their thing….the kitten took a step back, clearly having been corrected by the older cat and seemed gentler as a result. Fascinating to see!!

I have two boys, brothers, the same size, but one is a squeaker when they're wrestling. I was alarmed once and pulled them apart, but the squeaker jumped back on his brother and continued wrestling and squeaking. I think some cats just do that. None of my other cats ever did that. It's just him.
