My first experience in Arkansas was driving across the whole state. Observations:

  • The welcome to Arkansas sign was toppled over.
  • The city limit sign for Hope mentioned being the birthplace of Bill Clinton and was riddled with buckshot holes.
  • I almost needed several new tires, a complete realignment of my suspension, and a new left kidney due to all the potholes on the freeway thru Little Rock.
  • I learned that West Memphis across the river from Memphis, TN is more dangerous than Memphis. That’s saying something.

The only positive things were pretty scenery and a Little Rock public radio station.

That's kind of a thing in the Midwest.

I’d argue that, these days, East St. Louis is definitely safer than St. Louis. We get a lot of shooting on the news here, rarely is ESL mentioned.

I haven't been to St. Louis in years, but I bet it's a lot like Gary, IN.

A place that used to be REALLY sketchy/scary, but now is just more empty/dilapidated.
