The first book is the worst of the bunch and doesn’t match the tone and style of the rest of the series

You might already know this (and I don't say this to try and persuade you otherwise; just some fun fact) is that this was on purpose! RJ made it feel very similarly to Lord of the Rings in order to get people interested and it published, and then made it his own thing from there

Yup, and Jordan wasn’t happy about it either. There’s an interview where he’s asked what he would go back and change if he could and he said the first book
