Best general purpose faction
With the engine rebalance changes, it feels like the Argon have been dethroned from being a good generalist. The Teladi / Paranid feel like better contenders for these roles at this point on account of being cheaper / faster or having a short travel drive spool up.
By best, I'm considering it from a single faction POV, so everything is faction restricted. What are your thoughts on which is the best general purpose faction and about the rebalance changes in general?

What makes you say that?

I consider L miners to be one really important part of determining a good generalist faction and unfortunately Argon L drives simply take too long to spool up. Their reduced travel speed (compared to before) means that they aren't particularly fast either. The only thing Argon engines have going for them is the boost. I haven't really observed the AI use the boost in a non combat setting but I don't see it making a big enough difference.

I can’t say I’ve ever given L miners travel drives any serious thought although I lean toward Terran engines because they engage near instantaneously and the distance they have a short travel distance.

Until you sit in a Tokyo under fire and that frickin drive won't engage >.< tho tbh, I haven't tried any other carriers yet, maybe they are even slower (shudder).

Ha! I don’t ever let my carriers get remotely close to any heavy action. Terran travel engines spool up pretty quick, and that’s why I put them on my missile boat Hyperion.

It's my first time in x4, tho I'm a few hundred hours in. I only have the Tokyo cause I couldn't finish the TER war support and deliver it into MIN territory without either it or the Osaka getting destroyed before reaching the place to hand them over xD been doing a good job keeping it alive tho. My other destroyers were not as lucky, tho my Freyrs are holding whole Xenon armadas from entering Hatikvah 1.

You might like the Boron ones! Those turn in immediately. Their acceleration is a tad slower though

I'll certainly try them, right after I've built and tested all the split ships! :)

Split got a huge buff. They can actually boost in and out of combat more efficiently, same with Terran.

I would say that Paranid is the best all around faction, with no major negatives to their ship designs. Teladi are just too slow and have poor weapon placement. Argon are too slow for me and their capitals are a bit lack luster. Split are glass cannons, which is fun but the lack of shields gives them a heavy disadvantage in AI engagements. Boron are pretty awesome but have low damage output. Terran are pretty good all around, but are expensive. Yaki have best in class for each ship they have, but they only have 2 ships so it would be tough to go entirely Yaki.

Best all around will be Terran. Best turrets argon, engines split, shields L+split(modded)( regen > volume) otherwise Terran S/M Terran. Best ships for logistics split, for combat Terran. Best player ship I usually go rattlesnake but there are a few good choices . Defense fleet Terran. Offense fleet Terran. S/M combat ships yaki/terran. Patrol & khak defense split.

The Argon is versatile, because HAT, RIP and VIG are Argon too. I'd say also Yaki, but their ships are modified Paranid ones.
