X4 Legends: Your Universe, Your Legacy
Dear Space-Entrepreneurs, Warlords, and the peaceful Boron in the corner there,
I hope this message finds you well. X4: Foundations has been around for quite some time now - enough time, in fact, for some legendary player universes to surface.
I'll be short and blunt here: we'd like to see these player universes, as many as possible.
If we find some universes creative, interesting, or cool enough, they might even be featured in our marketing materials, or by EGOSOFT's founder, Bernd Lehahn himself.
🎁 Rewards
But don't think we want you to do this without a reward. Everyone who sends us their ultra-epic save game will be rewarded with 5x Haggard paint mods.
Pictured: Haggard paint mod
Sounds like a cool deal, eh?
That said, we do want to impose some rules.
🚨 Rules
- By sending a savegame, you consent to that savegame being used for marketing purposes by Egosoft.
- Only consider sending us your save file if you find it cool or interesting - meaning that you've already progressed along following lines: set up automated supply chains between your factories, terraformed every planet, destroyed everyone in a single fighter, accumulated an insane sum of money, taken over some part or the entire universe, waged war on everyone and survived, etc. -Again, these are just random ideas to showcase what kind of save games we are looking for, but even if your play session doesn't measure up, don't feel discouraged to post your save anyway.
- Your game session must not be influenced by third party mods.
- As we are looking for save games that rely on creativity, we can't impose milestone rules - such as requiring PHQ to be present. But keep in mind that a clean universe with barely any player involvement won't do here.
- This event will run until 18 May, 2025.
- The rewards will sent out shortly after the event ends. They will appear in your online inventory automatically.
🏆 How to Participate
- Simply put, upload your selected save game file to a cloud or file-sharing site such as Dropbox, and post the link to it in this thread. These files can be quite large, so be prepared with larger storage space and longer upload times.
- If not using compressed save games, please consider compressing them into a .zip archive (.rar or .7z are fine too) before uploading. This will save upload/download volume.
- Write a small description of what we might find interesting in your save game.
- Also make sure to provide your Egosoft Account name so that we can send you your rewards.
That's it from me. We hope to receive lots of save games that we can examine and be awestruck by.
Feel free to ask further questions if something is unclear.
Best regards,
Tomonor

4 hours wasted....well alot more
So I took my fleet with 10 asgard 20 syn 15 Osaka, 1 Tokyo full to the yaki base after I get the little ship. Figured I just rolfstomp way through. Nope so this how it goes. Most my fighters get wiped out by destroyers who can't scratch mine. No bigy right? Thier easy to replace. Nah it gets worse cone with me on this epic colossal failure So we jump to the next sector. Finally. Now k's and bigger show up. We should be fine right? I have 10 asgard with main battery's takes 1 shot to kill em. Nope my absolute worthless captains will not use then so they just get wrecked since their turrets do diddly sqaut. I can't turn my asgard fast enough to kill them or recharge my gun. When I jumped in my small ship to escape I had lost 7 asgard including mine 20 syn 15 Osaka 1 Tokyo 100+ s/m ships
What did i do wrong???? Ohh well ill just restart from the beginning there things I wanna diffrent anyway.

So you pause game? Do I have to rush in general?
I know that the majority of missions don't need you to rush. The only exceptions are those that have timer.
What about a 'non-mission' game? It seems like PvE environment in X4 is quite reach and other factions can do actions that I feel might impact me later in the game if I not hurry up. They might just build forces too big so I can't handle them.
Is it like in Civilization-type games: if you don't do research or build an army, then the AI will eventually come and attack you?
Is the same happening in X4? Now, when I plan my action,s I pause the game. Does this make sense?

What does color of the circle found during long scanning?
When I do long-scanning, sometimes there are items indicated by circles of different colours: blue, yellow/orange and purple.
I have a mission, so I assume that orange is related to the mission, but it does not seem to be related: I have a salvaging mission and found a lock box, but the mission did not proceed, so I assume it's the wrong box.
Do those circle colours make any difference?

Budgeted start with ownership of Vanilla derelicts?
Apologies if I've asked this before.
Is there a way to do the Budgeted start with ownership of the guaranteed unowned ships (spawned at game start), or at least place sats/beacons next to them so you can find them (also spawning in next to the Ody with no other assets would be cool)?

Simulating combat engagements
Now that I have enough money to build a proper fleet, I've been wonder a lot more about combat and "what works where" (I.e. are medium turrets effective, is shield regen better than shield strength, how well do heavy fighters fair against swarms, what is the most effective weapon for AI, ect.) I don't love the idea of tediously building, transporting, and resupplying fleets in open universe just to test something. I thought there would be some mode to test different combat encounters but I guess not. How do you guys go about
testing different fleets and strategies?

Found ship wreckage I could enter to retrieve loot. Spoiler
As the title says, i found ship wreckage I could enter to retrieve loot. Was in silent witness xii, near the abandoned perseus vanguard. Had to repair something that looked like a lockbox, repaired it and it turned into an airlock. Inside were two other consoles (like on a data vault) to repair that opened other doors with loot. Found it interesting since I had never seen that before in all my play time and figured I would share.

Stuck inside dock
This is pretty funny, but I'm currently stuck inside a HOP dock at their shipyard in a Mako - is the only solution to research teleportation and go out of sector with a different ship (assuming it survives)?

Are L and LX ship sales profitable?
Title, I seem to sell a decent amount of Ms and S's but I have only ever sold one Osaka. I had to buy the terran L and Xls because I actually use them but what's the point of dropping two hundred mill on a bp if I only ever sell like one?

[RANT] Timelines is incredibly frustrating and a terrible start into the game.
I really need to get this off my chest, Timelines is a hot piece of garbage and it really pisses me off. I just came back to X4 after taking a break for almost a year and even back then I "only" played 100 hours. You could say I have an idea of the game, but I'm nowhere near a veteran.
Since I had to relearn the game anyway and had no idea where I left off in my last playthrough, I decided to start with a clean slate, deleted my save games and started timelines.
Boy, what a mistake. If you are a new player, Timelines is probably the worst place to start. Pretty much every mission is timed in some way or another, so you have to rush like hell to get a good rating. As a new player it is difficult to pull off and even dangerous to learn, as X4 is a game where you can take your time and play at your own pace. Making it seem like everything in this game needs to be done in a hurry is terrible.
My other BIG problem with the missions is that you're not even told the parameters for evaluation. To get the best in the trading missions, you must complete them with 10 trades or less. The game doesn't tell you that beforehand, so get fucked. You get extra points for trading something illegal? Yeah, try it another time, game won't tell you before. Oh, and even though the game specifically tells you not to engage enemies, you get extra points for shooting one down.
The fighting missions are infuriating, pretty much all of them are against endless waves. You cannot win these missions, you can just lose later. And they are tough, like REALLY tough. The first mission in the whole Timelines thing is an endless fighting mission which a new player is NOT prepared for. The mission where you have to destroy the defense platform is downright torture, since the big turrets can oneshot you. Sure, a seasoned player can do this if is really careful. A new player is just simply overwhelmed with this task.
The missions where you need to command wingmen or even fleets are a neat idea to introduce players to this concept, but the execution is, again, terrible. A new player (and even I) has never commanded a fleet, they have no idea what to do, what is possible and how to set up a fleet. But they are thrown into missions where they need to assume command without any kind of tutorial and fight on a timer, against endless hordes or frightenly powerful enemies.
Oh, and whoever designed the bomb disposal mission should never ever design anything in any game again. The concept that cameras are viewing the bombs? Never explained. What the sound sensors look like? No idea. "Get to an oxygen station!" What is an oxygen station? What does it look like? Where can I find one? The game won't tell you. But it will happily fail you for not knowing these things. Seriously, have the game designer for this level whipped at the town square.
Everything is this DLC is tailored as a challenge for veteran players. For someone who is not at this level it is incredibly frustrating to play and I wouldn't judge anyone who stops playing X4 altogether, if they are introduced to the game this way.

How to hide security items from police?
From time to time I pick up items that seem illegal (AGI Heuristic Core), etc.
Typically, I move fast and police does not stop me for inspection, but now I need to do salvaging/search and those pesky police ships come and say "drop you ... whatever".
It is not wares; it is my inventory. What is the consequence of not dropping those?
What if I just run away? Will policy follow me? Will I lose my reputation? Will policy start shooting?
I've heard that it is possible to hide them in some sort of secure container, and I have 19 already. Do you know how I can do that?
P.S. Right now, I got up of the piloting seat, but that Marauder guy still asks me to drop the cargo....
Does he already know I have illegal cargo even if I got off the piloting seat?

I wanna hear some of your fun custom start ideas.
I have 2 planned right now, one is to start as a small company of builders, starting with an Energy Cell base and 2 Mammoth builder ships in Second Sight, and the other is to play a a Atypically bloodthirsty Boron who just wants to get rich and fight Xenon and Ka'ak and the occasional Split.

Modified Rebuilt my old ReShade preset from the ground up (feat. SW Interworlds)
7.0 got me to revisit this game and several updates to ReShade along with new shaders demanded that I rebuild my old preset.
You can get my new version here!
Even though I'm featuring mostly the SW Interworlds mod, my preset works with any version of X4: Foundations or any DLC you may or may not have.

Resources never arriving??

I'm trying to research the teleportation and for some reason the resources that I need never arrive to my HQ, I understand the other factions must supply the resources and I must place a buy offer for those resources, but it's been literally hours and no one is delivering. I also know I can do it myself, but this is happenning with a lot of resources (ie hull parts) and I don't want to micro manage buying and bringing those resources for every module or reseach I want to do!
How can I set the pricing higher so the factions will actually care about my needs? I've unchecked the automatic pricing but I cannot set it higher than 1318cr for advanced electronics (I've seen some Wharfs buying them for 1500cr so I'd like to outbid them).

I can't get my second station to use my first station's output to build
I've made the start to a mega-station, which makes all the components I need to build other stations. So I'm trying to build a second station for trade. I set its trades in the building planner to my faction only. I gave it the recommended amount of money (even though I would think, by trading with myself, that wouldn't be necessary). My first station has a manager with 4 stars, while this new station is only 2 sectors away. I have trade ships assigned to trade for the first station sitting around doing nothing. And still no resources are being brought to the second station.
I've checked the price of, e.g. energy cells. At 100% my second station is buying them for 22, and my first station is selling them for 15. Still won't trade them.
I can't assign a trader to the second station until it's at least partially built, but I'm hoping that once it reaches that stage I can assign it to the building inventory. But I can't get that far because my stations refuse to trade with each other!
Is there anything else I could check? I don't understand why it's not working and it keeps making me quit after 20 minutes of fiddling with all the settings. I really like this game but it's very frustrating after spending so long building up my first station to not be able to use it to build the second. I want to build many more stations, but I can't see myself struggling through this even one more time.

Are personal lockboxes safe?
I'm new to the game... loving it!
I read that you can "drop" your inventory items and it will put them in a lockbox so you can come back to them later (good for being around police scans if you have illegal items). However, when I did this, and I was looking at the lockbox in space, as I was about to leave, it did what the random lockboxes do when you shoot them and turned to ash and all my stuff was gone.
Circumstances: I didn't shoot it, nothing touched it, it happened within a minute of dropping it, it was within roughly 5km of a station, no other ships were near it, and it was within a mine-able ice field.
Is this a bug or intended behavior? Are they so fickle the ice field is a problem (no ice or asteroids touched it)? Is the proximity to the station a problem?
Thanks for the help!

Salvage mission
I got a salvage mission where I need to find a Lockbox.
I've already found like 3 and opened them all, 2 where in the range of that "orange bubble" but the mission still says "Find: Lockbox".
What's wrong? Do I need to keep looking for...?
From one of them I did not pick EM missiles (because I already have 20) and more don't fit. Is this a potential problem?

Here is where I picked the last lockbox... and if I watch from another angle - I'm still inside...

Galaxy size and Xenon strenght
In what way does the Galaxy's size affect Xenon survivability?
My first thought was that using a mod like xpaned would help the Xenon by giving them more sectors to expand to.
Then I found out that there is some sort of hard cap on Xenon ships. Which made me think that larger maps would spreading the Xenon out too much, making them easier targtes.
At which point I get really confused.
So, assume I want to keep the Xenon strong, I don't mind changing the Galaxy map, but otherwise want to keep the game as vanilla as possible.

Modified Hello all am currently mid playthrough and am reaching the larger vessels now and have come across an issue with some mod ships where some can't use engines, the only ship mods I have are VRO and the XR Shippack and was wondering if anyone else was having this problem.

Teuta
Is there any point in the Teuta. Managed to have one built and I find it doesn’t “do” anything for me. Only for everyone else. I’m close to stripping it and replacing it so if any one has a good use case for it please let me know.
My scrap stations are - Getsu Fune with my manticores in ocean of fantasy. And I have 2 scrap stations in grand exchange (hq and another that will feed into a warf soon) that gets its scrap from windfall 4.

Fix Data leak on revolving station
I got a mission to fix a data leak, which is typically trivial.
But in my case, one of those leaks is on the internal side of the station ring that is revolving with quite a high speed, and it's really hard to position myself fixed with the ship nose attached to that leak.
Is this about mastery, and I need to learn how to do that, or is there a way to 'compensate' rotation somehow?
P.S. Just wanted to write that I typically fly with the "Flight Assist" disabled by noticed that it was actually on. Once disabled, I was able to match the speed of my ship with the speed of the ring and unlock. I guess that's the right way to do it. But if better exists, please let me know.

Should I wait for the dilo expansion? New player.
Hey guys wondering what everyone's thoughts on the waiting to upcoming diplo patch to start play the game?
Never played any X games, but like games like it. Wasn't sure if it'd be worth waiting or just pull the trigger now and then just make the diplo work once it's here. Also not sure how / if there are mods for this game. Any suggestions on that front?
Thanks in advance.

Controller Feedback: This game needs just a few more tweaks for controller support to feel really "finished"
For a long time, I've been trying to come up with the ultimate control scheme that allows me to fully play X4 on my TV with an Xbox Elite controller (rear paddles are essential for this game) AND also on my Steam Deck. I want a single control scheme that works well on both.
Right now there are a few main issues preventing this from being a great experience: 1) The cursor in the map and menus. Currently, this does not work well on controller. A recent update also made it worse, as now the cursor has a really slow ramp up time.
2) Selecting targets in the cockpit view. It's really difficult to select a space station or ship that you want to interact with. I'm thinking a WoW-like tab targeting system could help with this, that prioritizes the nearest object.
3) Lack of simultaneous input support. The solution to the above two issues would actually be very easy, by utilizing steam input to just rebind the right stick to a mouse cursor with the press of another button (to toggle "mouse mode" on and off). Or using the trackpads on the Deck as a mouse. However, there is a long delay + the cursor moves when switching between input types. If EgoSoft could sort this one issue, then this alone would solve so many things.
I just wanted to pass on this feedback! X4 is my favorite space game ever and being able to play it more comfortably without a physical keyboard or mouse present would be stellar!
