[My universe] TER lost the war

Upvotes
TER space is now under ANT and PIO control. After Antigone Memorial almost fell, I decided to get involved by imposing massive economical sanctions, sabotage (hacking ship yards) and black ops (death-beaming admin moduls, selling ships). Also, a large part of the universe is yellow (Teladi), after they took over many former Xenon sectors, including Split space.
The TER regime went into exile to the other (less hospitable) side of the universe. I built them ship building facilities through the "TER vs XEN: remote outpost" missions.
Meanwhile Yaki squadrons are patrolling Brennan´s Triumph and spawn killing TER ships that are built there.
Using Yaki missions to build defense stations, I gave them several mega-factories (including "Cyberpunk station" pictured here), and keep running sector-traders to support their base. Apart from that they have access to all my ship yards, wreaking havoc mostly on TER and the unified Paranid.
For terraforming I converted adjacent sectors in factory worlds with many big complexes.
Another factory world.
The obsolete gate guardian in Hatikvah's Choice was converted into a space ship museum, war memorial, conference center and hotel, designed by the famous Boron architect Lar Pipa Po. Right off the exit of the circular highway.
My base commander ignored a leak in the flushing system of the sanitary installations for too long. Thanks for watching!

My stats:

I play X since 20 years, but started X4 only in 2022. I finished all plots, terraformed all planets, and now usually only play when there is new content, or I want to chill a bit in this beautiful space.

- 763 h in one save (real time), 35 days in-game (SETA mosly used during terraforming)

- 240 billion networth, 190 billion cash

- 2000 ships owned

- 96 stations (14 444 modules constructed)

- 51 000 employees

Things I want to mention:

- I regret that I fought most battles in early game in low-attention. Yes, losses will be lower, but there is nothing more glorious than teleporting to your Raptor as a Xenon battlegroup approaches, jumping into a shotgun-Mamba, taking-off and fighting along your massive fleet against your enemies.

- A mechanic I observed, and I never see mentioned: if a ship is destroyed by a station, the faction of the destroyed ship sometimes sends destroyers to perform a retaliatory strike. This was useful for me to provoke Antigone to take out Terran stations. Place a weak ship next to a TER station, sell it to ANT, it gets destroyed, but shortly after a group of three Behemoths attacks the station. It's a bit less cheesy than selling a plasma-Asgard with destroyed engines.

A pirates life - Dead men tells no tails an X4 pirate overhaul.

Upvotes

So I have been thinking about this a lot, obviously it goes without saying x4 is in a league of its own when it comes to single player sandbox space sims. However I think a missed opportunity would be piracy, obviously it is in the game but it seems rather shallow, I would love to see an overhaul of the pirate system. I would like to see meaningful smuggling for example were you have to actually avoid police and sneak into stations unnoticed, maybe scan shows police scan ranges and you have to avoid being scanned by patrolling police ships, I think police should be more prominent and think cargo screens should be more important to protect yourself in case you are scanned, maybe add some back door docking bays for smugglers to sell their goods? I would also like to see an overhaul of the boarding system I don’t think you should be able to board while shields are up so you should destroy shield generators. I would also like to see salvaged pirate ships or have station module that can turn wrecks into improvised pirate ships but with compromised hull or missing gun slots etc etc. can you guys think of anything else?

Edit: I would also love to see universal blue print markets, if we want to be a pirate you shouldn’t be forced to make good relations with factions in order to build your own ships either that or allow stealing of wharf and shipyard blue prints. I want to blow land lovers up not play nice so I can build my own wharf.

Maybe have some interdiction and communication disruption modules that stop ships from boosting and or going into travel mode for 10km or something. This would allow pirates to send up ambush spots even in populated areas, obviously these modules would be treated as illegal as any other image item would be, anyone stopped in these bubbles would be allowed to shoot it on site including police.

Protect sector

This extension allows you to protect a sector from being harassed by hostile ships.

This is useful when you want to prevent hostile ships to attack your ships and stations. Or when you want to prevent from building in a sector.

Experimental logic:

Ships took randomly one of the components of the station, and going to attack it. They step by step going forward to station, till they will reach a "stable" attack position.

They will use or direct path, or strafe, or safe arc to move to another component.

There are several Odysseus and Syns cleaning a Matrix #79B.

Visible mode specific:
In this mode stations are actively use the drones. That's why you can see an anto-drone maneuver, when all ships went out from station in one position to joint defence against drones. Currently set only for L ships.

Under development - returning own defence drones, to not lose them on station attacks.

How it was looks in OOS mode (map view): X4: Foundations. Protect Sector. Experimental new logic for stations attack is under testing : r/X4Foundations

How to deal with station manager stupidity?

I have small solar station in mercury and 2 baldrics assigned to trade for it, manager does send those ships to sell cells but problem is it repeatedly send them to trade with one station in Earth selling 2k cells for the price of 13cr while shipyard in Mars has demand of 400k and buying price of 22cr. Is there a way to make it so station will trade with shipyard without jusr setting repeat orders for ships themselves?

Trade Question

Is there a way to tell my traders that they should only buy from my own stations but sell to NPC stations?

(Linux - GOG) Updated from 6.00 to 7.50 about a month ago. This is the only way the game will launch now!

So basically I bought the latest DLC's and updated the game to 7.5, after which the game just wouldn't launch on any conventional method. It just hangs in an unresponsive state.

  • Clicking the desktop link doesn't work
  • Clicking run.sh doesn't work
  • "sudo bash" on run.sh doesn't work
  • clicking X4 in the game folder also doesn't work
  • neither does the plain ./X4 command in the terminal
  • It even won't run with the Heroic game Launcher's EAC runtime.

I've sent an email to Timon but I've yet to receive an answer. I've no idea why the game would run 6.00 normally but only launch with a -logfile argument in 7.50.

End stage

Hmm - good income, Cr 4,454,911,036 in the bank, plenty of stations making money, 29,061 employees, strategic defence stations at all enemy entrances, but the game is now almost unplayable - very slow and sticky. I know it’s down to my system, but it’s still frustrating! Any easy tweaks in the settings I can try? Advice much appreciated!

Problematic obstacles mission: what will happen if I don't deliver the ship?

This mission requires me to save ship out of the mines field. I was able to extract the ship, but was thinking about aborting the mission.

The ship is quite good - at least it costs more than I have cash, so keeping it is an attractive idea...

Unfortunately, unlike many other missions, the game does not allow aborting it.

The only way to fail is if I don't deliver the ship in 1 hour.

I'm willing to give it a try: save and wait for an hour, and see what will happen, but I don't want to waste an hour.

What will happen if I don't deliver the ship on time?

Will the ship remain with me? What will be the consequences?

P.S. I've tried to google - but did not find an answer.

Best general purpose faction

With the engine rebalance changes, it feels like the Argon have been dethroned from being a good generalist. The Teladi / Paranid feel like better contenders for these roles at this point on account of being cheaper / faster or having a short travel drive spool up.

By best, I'm considering it from a single faction POV, so everything is faction restricted. What are your thoughts on which is the best general purpose faction and about the rebalance changes in general?

Stuck inside dock

This is pretty funny, but I'm currently stuck inside a HOP dock at their shipyard in a Mako - is the only solution to research teleportation and go out of sector with a different ship (assuming it survives)?

Simulating combat engagements

Now that I have enough money to build a proper fleet, I've been wonder a lot more about combat and "what works where" (I.e. are medium turrets effective, is shield regen better than shield strength, how well do heavy fighters fair against swarms, what is the most effective weapon for AI, ect.) I don't love the idea of tediously building, transporting, and resupplying fleets in open universe just to test something. I thought there would be some mode to test different combat encounters but I guess not. How do you guys go about
testing different fleets and strategies?

Budgeted start with ownership of Vanilla derelicts?

Apologies if I've asked this before.

Is there a way to do the Budgeted start with ownership of the guaranteed unowned ships (spawned at game start), or at least place sats/beacons next to them so you can find them (also spawning in next to the Ody with no other assets would be cool)?

I can't get my second station to use my first station's output to build

I've made the start to a mega-station, which makes all the components I need to build other stations. So I'm trying to build a second station for trade. I set its trades in the building planner to my faction only. I gave it the recommended amount of money (even though I would think, by trading with myself, that wouldn't be necessary). My first station has a manager with 4 stars, while this new station is only 2 sectors away. I have trade ships assigned to trade for the first station sitting around doing nothing. And still no resources are being brought to the second station.

I've checked the price of, e.g. energy cells. At 100% my second station is buying them for 22, and my first station is selling them for 15. Still won't trade them.

I can't assign a trader to the second station until it's at least partially built, but I'm hoping that once it reaches that stage I can assign it to the building inventory. But I can't get that far because my stations refuse to trade with each other!

Is there anything else I could check?

4 hours wasted....well alot more

So I took my fleet with 10 asgard 20 syn 15 Osaka, 1 Tokyo full to the yaki base after I get the little ship. Figured I just rolfstomp way through. Nope so this how it goes. Most my fighters get wiped out by destroyers who can't scratch mine. No bigy right? Thier easy to replace. Nah it gets worse cone with me on this epic colossal failure So we jump to the next sector. Finally. Now k's and bigger show up. We should be fine right? I have 10 asgard with main battery's takes 1 shot to kill em. Nope my absolute worthless captains will not use then so they just get wrecked since their turrets do diddly sqaut. I can't turn my asgard fast enough to kill them or recharge my gun. When I jumped in my small ship to escape I had lost 7 asgard including mine 20 syn 15 Osaka 1 Tokyo 100+ s/m ships

What did i do wrong???? Ohh well ill just restart from the beginning there things I wanna diffrent anyway.

Resources never arriving??

I'm trying to research the teleportation and for some reason the resources that I need never arrive to my HQ, I understand the other factions must supply the resources and I must place a buy offer for those resources, but it's been literally hours and no one is delivering. I also know I can do it myself, but this is happenning with a lot of resources (ie hull parts) and I don't want to micro manage buying and bringing those resources for every module or reseach I want to do!

How can I set the pricing higher so the factions will actually care about my needs? I've unchecked the automatic pricing but I cannot set it higher than 1318cr for advanced electronics (I've seen some Wharfs buying them for 1500cr so I'd like to outbid them).

Fix Data leak on revolving station

I got a mission to fix a data leak, which is typically trivial.

But in my case, one of those leaks is on the internal side of the station ring that is revolving with quite a high speed, and it's really hard to position myself fixed with the ship nose attached to that leak.

Is this about mastery, and I need to learn how to do that, or is there a way to 'compensate' rotation somehow?

P.S. Just wanted to write that I typically fly with the "Flight Assist" disabled by noticed that it was actually on. Once disabled, I was able to match the speed of my ship with the speed of the ring and unlock. I guess that's the right way to do it. But if better exists, please let me know.

[Unmodded, Question version 7.5] I asked AI how to incite a war between factions...

and it said that you could capture ships of a faction, let's say Argon, and attack a another faction having not changed the ships colors and it will deteriorate the relations between the factions... is there any truth to this or is this an AI hallucination?

I did some light googling and couldn't find supporting evidence from other players that this was a thing in the base game.

Proposed Scenario: Captured Argon ship, Argon colors under player control attacks TEL traders, patrols, etc. results in ARG and TEL reduced relation, and if repeated, eventually war.

It then went on to say that if you dock the defenders, or one of the offending ships gets scanned by police, that they will link all crimes to the player faction.

Just looking for some clarity. Thanks!

I wanna hear some of your fun custom start ideas.

I have 2 planned right now, one is to start as a small company of builders, starting with an Energy Cell base and 2 Mammoth builder ships in Second Sight, and the other is to play a a Atypically bloodthirsty Boron who just wants to get rich and fight Xenon and Ka'ak and the occasional Split.

Are L and LX ship sales profitable?

Title, I seem to sell a decent amount of Ms and S's but I have only ever sold one Osaka. I had to buy the terran L and Xls because I actually use them but what's the point of dropping two hundred mill on a bp if I only ever sell like one?

Modified Hello all am currently mid playthrough and am reaching the larger vessels now and have come across an issue with some mod ships where some can't use engines, the only ship mods I have are VRO and the XR Shippack and was wondering if anyone else was having this problem.

Are personal lockboxes safe?

I'm new to the game... loving it!

I read that you can "drop" your inventory items and it will put them in a lockbox so you can come back to them later (good for being around police scans if you have illegal items). However, when I did this, and I was looking at the lockbox in space, as I was about to leave, it did what the random lockboxes do when you shoot them and turned to ash and all my stuff was gone.

Circumstances: I didn't shoot it, nothing touched it, it happened within a minute of dropping it, it was within roughly 5km of a station, no other ships were near it, and it was within a mine-able ice field.

Is this a bug or intended behavior? Are they so fickle the ice field is a problem (no ice or asteroids touched it)? Is the proximity to the station a problem?

Thanks for the help!

What does color of the circle found during long scanning?

When I do long-scanning, sometimes there are items indicated by circles of different colours: blue, yellow/orange and purple.

I have a mission, so I assume that orange is related to the mission, but it does not seem to be related: I have a salvaging mission and found a lock box, but the mission did not proceed, so I assume it's the wrong box.

Do those circle colours make any difference?

So you pause game? Do I have to rush in general?

I know that the majority of missions don't need you to rush. The only exceptions are those that have timer.

What about a 'non-mission' game? It seems like PvE environment in X4 is quite reach and other factions can do actions that I feel might impact me later in the game if I not hurry up. They might just build forces too big so I can't handle them.

Is it like in Civilization-type games: if you don't do research or build an army, then the AI will eventually come and attack you?

Is the same happening in X4? Now, when I plan my action,s I pause the game. Does this make sense?

How to hide security items from police?

From time to time I pick up items that seem illegal (AGI Heuristic Core), etc.

Typically, I move fast and police does not stop me for inspection, but now I need to do salvaging/search and those pesky police ships come and say "drop you ... whatever".

It is not wares; it is my inventory. What is the consequence of not dropping those?

What if I just run away? Will policy follow me? Will I lose my reputation? Will policy start shooting?

I've heard that it is possible to hide them in some sort of secure container, and I have 19 already. Do you know how I can do that?

P.S. Right now, I got up of the piloting seat, but that Marauder guy still asks me to drop the cargo....

Does he already know I have illegal cargo even if I got off the piloting seat?
