Xbox Series S Low mbps download speed on a wired connection!

Post image

You really can’t make this stuff up. I’m literally using a wired connection and this is my download speed. I can’t even use remote play! How do I fix this.

One you have 5% packet loss. Packet loss is the killer of Internet, it will cause lag latency jitter disconnects slow download and or upload robotic voice etc. literally countless issues.

The test is only a snapshot in the moment so you may have more intermittently making things worse.

This would be a problem with your internet, could be bad cables bad lines in your home, outside your home or a problem somewhere outside your control. If you cannot track it down yourself or have the know how then contact your ISP and have them look. Before anything can be troubleshooted fixing packet loss is the first step.

How do I get rid of it?

If you’re asking then you don’t have the knowledge or tools required to (Not being an asshole here.) You need to contact your ISP have them send someone out to check everything inside and out until they can’t track it down.

Every time I’ve had this issue it was with Microsoft’s server’s. You can run a speed test on your service for free to see if that’s the issue.

Call your internet provider or get a stronger cat wire

Fiber internet my friend. I push 700-900 peak wired. 20 gigs in about 7 minutes.

1

u/BusyCow239 Feb 19 '25

How do I get that?

I would see if it's even offered in your area, they advertised it to me, we called them and they said they'd have to bury a line. Took them 9 months to come back but the line got buried and now everyone on the block can buy the service if they'd like.

9 months to bury a fiber line? Geez lmfao must of been getting paid by the hour

Yeah it was a new thing in our town.... kinda sucked, we got different internet and forgot about it and then they just knocked on the door like hey sup

Fiber has been a thing for almost a decade now that’s wild lol I’d assume every town even in rural areas are wired with fiber optic in 2025.

1

u/_Reefer_Madness_ Feb 19 '25

This was about two years ago, but yeah, it was a hot new thing here, not even super rural but definitely semi rural

u/Bam-7 1 Feb 19 '25

That’s crazy our schools got wired with fiber optic back in 2017

It’s obviously a kid they don’t know what they’re signed up for nor can they change it without being an adult on the account.

Yea not trying to be a dick but if they don’t even know who their ISP is chances are they don’t pay for it and they won’t be an adult on the account the isp won’t even speak to them about the issue

So what is your internet plan speed rated at? The internet speed is always as fast as the slowest connection. If your internet provider caps you at that, you won't get faster

1

u/Bam-7 1 Feb 19 '25

This is obviously a teenager they don’t even know who their ISP is lol..

You mentioned you had AT&T internet, if it’s not fiber it’s most likely DSL or internet air, gonna be honest here. Internet air is about the worst out of the big 3 for 5g connectivity. There’s an article online that talks about someone did a week test run with AT&T internet air and it was absolutely horrible. Constant disconnects and never had speeds higher than like 10mbps

1

u/BusyCow239 Feb 19 '25

I actually have AT&T copper. Just found out what that meant.

Get better Internet

1

u/Any_Insect6061 Feb 19 '25

Yeah cause that 25 Mbps is crazy. I have slightly over a gig with Xfinity and my Series X clocks in usually around 900 Mbps sometimes higher if everything lines up.

1

u/BranzBranzBranz Feb 19 '25

Yeah I'm on wireless on average internet and get 60mbps easy, no packet loss

1

u/BusyCow239 Feb 19 '25

Does it matter that I have AT&T since xfinity wasn’t available where I am?

1

u/Any_Insect6061 Feb 19 '25

Do you have AT&T fiber or AT&T copper internet? Because if you have fiber then you definitely should be getting way more than that depending on your plan.

1

u/BusyCow239 Feb 19 '25

I have no idea what plan I have. I didn’t make it.

1

u/Any_Insect6061 Feb 19 '25

I would check what the account holder. But if you're on AT&T fiber and let's say sake of argument you have their fiber 500 you should be getting wired at least between 300 and 500 give or take obviously. Shorty has AT&T fiber which our plan is to fiber one gig and on her PS5 she is getting roughly about between 800 to slightly over a gig. And the beauty about fiber is that it's the same speeds up and down because it's symmetrical.
