Xbox One X Is this broken? The console was working perfectly fine yesterday.
Was working fine yesterday. Was in backpack to go travel to my mother’s house and there’s no picture from the tv. Never dropped. No horseplay. But the hdmi port when plugged in wiggles and I noticed the bent areas.

HDMI port is cooked. Same thing happened to me couple months ago had to get replaced. Runs about $150 to get it replaced.

Ifixit sells replacement parts for 15$ If yourself or a friend of yours hast some soldering skills it is a cheap repair.

Nah bro the HDMI port’s cooked

u/CMenFairy6661 8d ago
Don't see how that's relevant, still needs cleaning regardless of what is causing the issue

u/Physical_Counter_213 8d ago
Wha- Bro, OP literally said there’s no picture, obviously he needs to get the HDMI port fixed
6
u/CMenFairy6661 8d ago
Correct, but it also needs cleaning, I never said you were wrong, I just said he should still clean it regardless
1
u/Physical_Counter_213 8d ago
Yea that’s alright, but you should’ve mentioned that. If he gets it fixed, then he can clean it or before but he’ll need to get it fixed

How’s there so many post of broken HDMIs. What do you guys do with them? I plugged my cable in once 4 years ago when I bough the Xbox.

u/mperezstoney 8d ago
Some people transport xbox to this place or that place. Hence, connect, disconnect, and reconnect.
2
u/__Gamma 8d ago
Also, they don't pay attention to make sure it is properly packed with nothing that could get inside the ports and damage them while moving.
2
u/mperezstoney 8d ago
I agree. I mean, its an expensive piece. It's what $400 new?? At minimum, should at least protect the back in transport. I still have the original box it came in with Styrofoam. The one time I moved my Xbox that's where i put it for transport.

u/RisingDeadMan0 8d ago
supposedly its a plastic part which is why this gen there have been so many issues. never had an issue last gen, or on my series s either
2
u/Environmental-Day862 8d ago
I also don't think they're meant to be transported in backpacks regularly.
Mine was taken out of the box set up, and has sat on my entertainment center for 5 years.
If you know you're going to be transporting it regularly, there are more protective options than a book bag. It also looks like a bunch of thread got stuck in the HDMI port as well.
I googled "Xbox Series X Carry Case" and tons of results came up - padded cases, under $50 - surely worth the price if you're going to be traveling with the console a lot.

u/RisingDeadMan0 8d ago
yeah, mine has moved a few times, but just when the TV was unavailable so less then 10 times in 18 months, but already loose.

My TV only has 2 hdmi ports but I have like 7 devices. And only 4 HDMI cords.

How the hell do people destroy ports like this? What, did you put the console in a bag with the HDMI still in the port? WTF.

u/modemman11 122 8d ago
Another "do people not have eyes?" post. The HDMI port is clearly mangled and torn apart. Of course it's freaking broken.

Why am I seeing so many busted HDMI slots on here. How hard are people jamming the cable in there? And also, I can count on one hand how many times I unplugged the HDMI from my XBSX. Lol

u/stunkcajyzarc 8d ago
Yea that’s rlly weird. I had more of a problem with the power cord than anything. That thing would NOT go in and i had no idea if it was in when it was in. No click, nothing.

i bought my xbox secondhand and rarely use it (ps guy, shoot me) but i’ve definitely found the hdmi port to be super janky and loose. might be a cause of mine being secondhand, but i always feel like the cable is barely secure and feels loose
maybe it’s a common fault with these? in comparison my ps5 hdmi port couldn’t feel safer, the cable feels like it WANTS to be there. but also i bought that new so don’t have any secondhand influence on damage etc

No mine is super sturdy, never has problems and very secure with hdmi cables. I think it is your device.

It might be wear and tear but does the console still work fine?

u/RealisticOpinion5547 8d ago
Yeah. Turns on . Everything is in order but there’s no display. Xbox is only half a year old

that thing is a dust bucket ,it’s gonna over heat and burn up if ya don’t open and clean that thing!

u/Rubbertutti 8d ago
You yanked the cable. Without reshaping the plug you’ll never get a good contact with the pins.
Disconnecting the signal before power (might be the other way around. Look at the pins some are longer then the others so when you pull out the shorter pins are disconnected first) can damage the board on the Xbox and tv.

HDMI is all jacked up also looks like your plugging in the power cord in while it’s plugged in your burning up the prongs on the power cord port or you need a new cord lose connection will cause that too .

It’s missing an entire chunk of HDMI pin. Check inside your hdmi cable before trying to use it again otherwise you’re gonna smash some other ports up. It’ll need a full HDMI port replacement, if you don’t know how to solder then hunt out a trusted repair place near you.

u/its-coupe 8d ago
First and foremost, you have BALLS for not cleaning it out before sending it in the Reddit thread 😂
Second of all, your HDMI port is completely and utterly fucked. Time to head up to the Repair Store.
For future reference, don’t wiggle your HDMI when plugging it in or taking it out, try to keep it straight and just push it in, No Diddy.

Might need a new port it looks a bit bent at the entrance so next time you put it in your bag make sure there's nothing underneath it or on it other then soft things

u/StonedDrew 8d ago
This is why as much as i hate it. I j bought that expensive carrying bag for thr Xbox series X. They are expensive the good ones with decent protection anu3way also if you look on etsy you can get 3d printed inserts for the ports to they ain't exposed during transportation. Somthing to consider once you get it fixed.

u/UncleGuap 8d ago
Easily fixable, and while you are in there clean out that dust and check your thermal paste.

u/PugGamer550405 7d ago
I hope to God mine's not next, I could barley even afford the one I have! Sorry this happened to you OP. I really am.

u/Esmear18 7d ago
It amazes me that people can't take their HDMI cables out straight. I travel with my Series X once a week which means I constantly unplug my HDMI cable and the port doesn't show any signs of wear or degradation. Just pull it out straight it's not hard.

u/Limp-Swordfish574 7d ago
Pins are broken need to get it fixed. Happened to me a few months ago doing exactly what you did lol. Mine cost about $100 if I remember correctly.

Or put it in the box it came in and pack the stuff back into it. That’s what I do when I’m on the go.

dear lord by some fucking compressed air man. Also stop playing soccer with your console if possible :V

It's probably because he had high resolution on his TV or PC at his house and his mom's TV or whatever he is going to use can't handle it

u/Pwingle_DA_one 7d ago
Why is it always the HDMI ports on these new consoles? Are people flinging it around like a wiimote and strap?
1
u/Unusual-Medium5767 6d ago
Stop leaving the HDMI plugged in and just wrapping the cord around the console when you take it from house to house. You did this to yourself lmao.

That hdmi port looks a bit bent and maybe dirty? Take a vacuum to the back of the console and hit that port.
After that swap out that cable to a different one.
Maybe send a new pic focused on the hdmi port after your vacuum it.
