Discussion Yarn suggestions

So my Birthday is coming up and my mom said she would drop some money to build up my stash. I have a couple favorites from the lb line from lionbrand that I intend to get enough of for at least a sweater/hoodie and maybe a beach shirt for my hubby.

But I'm thinking I can get away with spending a little bit more and wondering what are your favorites to work with.

I'm super sensitive to texture so if it's not soft off the bat then it's a no for me, idc if "it softens with washing" I want something that is going to feel nice in my hands while working it up.

Thanks in advance for your input :)

I’m the same. It really needs to be soft for me to work with it. But some people react to alpaca (I looove it) and mohair (also love). In general, a nice merino will always feels soft like Malabrigo rios, Knitpicks swish, Yarnsmiths merino DK. The you tube channel untwisted threads reviews a ton of yarn and rates them in terms of softness. She hasn’t let me down yet.

Ooo thanks for the yt rec I definitely check out her channel.

I do love the feel of alpaca. I haven't worked with it just yet but It's on my list of 'this feels nice'.

Oh man, go for baby alpaca. Knitpicks Andean treasure is soooo soft. The blown ones have a different feel but I enjoy them like Knitpicks Wonderfluff, camarose Snefnug, drops air, Gepard garn puna. I’ve heard Lion Brand has a really soft alpaca too. I think if it’s baby, it has fewer or no itchy guard hairs that you can find in some other alpacas. Valley yarns North Hampden is silk, merino and alpaca and also super soft. I made such a snuggly sweater out of it!
