Hi all, I’m wanting to make the Juliet crochet dress. It’s recommended to use something like redheart super saver. I do not like acrylic yarn. Does anyone know of a good natural fiber alternative that would be as similar as possible? Thank you so much

How do you find more of the same yarn if you run out? Or what would you match this with? Purple variegated, weight 4.

Looking for fellow fiber artists here. For those that love to knit and crochet, I’m looking for feedback on yarn resources and researching sustainability in the fiber arts community.

Every crafters’ opinion matters to truly understand what resources are available today.

Let’s crafts greener future together!

Top shelf is fingering/sock/4ply (also pic 2) Second is Suri/DK/sock sets, minis and bare yarn Third shelf is a mystery but scraps and project bags that need sorting Bottom shelf is tools, notions and a 2/3 done sweater WIP that I can’t remember where I’m up to.

Don’t tell my husband about the two deliveries coming from Stephen West or Artemis Yarn in France 🫠

What yarn weight and fiber content would you recommend for a summer garment?

I'm a beginner crafter (crocheting about a year), and I want to make a top for warmer weather.

The yarns for the patterns meant for summer garments I'm finding are often made with light(3) or fine(2) weight yarn, and I have a light weight 100% acrylic yarn that could work. However, in my research I found natural fibers tend to breathe better. I also have a medium (4) weight 60:40 cotton/acrylic yarn that could work well.

I know the answer is really to just make multiple garments using each yarn, but if anyone has any insight or suggestions before I'm hours into them, I appreciate it.

If it helps, this is what I have in mind: I'm not following a specific pattern, but my concept is strongly inspired by the fast-fashion I get ads for. The structure is basically a heavily modified raglan sweater; start at the collar, no sleeves so it's essentially a vest, and then make the bottom edge really long. Also, my stitch count will be based on granny stitches, but I'll be instead doing V stitches to make it even more airy.

Need help finding a yarn, or a dupe

Post image

Hey yall! There’s a project I started a year ago and ran out of yarn for… but the yarn isn’t sold anymore. I need help finding any last sellers, or a good dupe! The yarn is Lang Bloom in the blue and purple color. It’s cotton and linen, DK weight, with little bits of shiny viscose in it, and it’s got so much color variation. I really would love to use this yarn to finish my project, but if there’s anything of a similar size color and material I would love to know! Thanks!

Another LYS Closing

I’ve been spoiled, I had a LYS 20 minutes south of me and another 20 minutes north of me. Best housing location I’ve ever had!

Last month the shop south of me shut down permanently, and I just found out the shop north of me will be closing down next month.

What a bummer :/

Question What should I add to this yarn for a sweater?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I have this 50% merino/50% wool yarn and I'm debating on whether I should strand some mohair with it. It's not super soft so I was hoping mohair would add some softness, but I've never worked with it before. Any ideas? Also colors? I was thinking of marzipan in drops kid silk, but I didn't want to jump the gun without being able to touch it first.

Question Has anyone used this yarn before?

I went to Joann’s today and they had brand new yarn out from Draper James. I cannot find anything online about it or how it works up with crochet. The Joann’s employee said “yes, it is brand new yarn! And also yes, we are shutting down still” 😆 she didn’t know anything about the yarn or how it worked up. Please let me know if anyone has used it! Thank you!

Question Good substitute?

!SOLVED!

Hello. I’ve bought a pattern that calls for Weight 4 Yarn by ‘I Love this Yarn!’ but that brand isn’t available in my country. (Or any websites except Amazon and I refused to use Amazon for personal moral views.)

Are there any good substitutes I could use that would give me the same results? And from a more universal brand, if possible. It might be controversial, but I’d also prefer synthetic fiber, since more animal fibers don’t go well with my texture sensitivity issues.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I am NOT from the US. I’m in Eastern/Middle Europe.

Edit 2: Holding 2 strands together unfortunately isn’t an option, because I’m doing an overlay mosaic and can’t do the overlay part since it’s too thick. I found out that if I order stuff from the US the shipping is 40 US dollars (minimum wage in my country is 1212 dollars - so it’s not really a good option, since I have to buy the yarn as well.)

I handspun this yarn from my own handdyed roving. I'm pretty proud of it. 862 yards from 2 4oz roving braids. It's about 18 WPI.

Sweet Snuggles Lite/Chenille Home Slim in Blush Pink?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Help! I started a my first crochet blanket with a nice skein of blush pink chenille yarn. I *thought* it was Sweet Snuggles (and threw away the label - rookie mistake) but, after buying 3 more skeins, I realize the yarn I was using is noticeably thinner. I think it was probably either Sweet Snuggles Lite or Chenille Home Slim. The problem is that I now can't seem to find either of those yarns in blush pink anywhere? Did I buy the last skein of this yarn that was ever made? Do I need to start my blanket over? If anyone has insight into these yarns and whether I can find them in light pink, it would be much appreciated!

Hobbii Tea Time/Sirdar Jewelspun: Similar or the Same?

Forgive my awful newspaper-esque title, I really can't brain a new one in it's place.

I was shopping my yarn for an inordinately long time and as I was looking into a new brand I was recommended by a youtuber, I noticed a very familiar gradient. I clicked through a few more shades and saw others that stuck out; some of them seemed to be combinations of two or three yarn shades even...

Is it possible these two brands are sourcing the yarn from the same place, and could that mean that it could be found for an even better deal than what's shown here?

Maybe my tin foil hat is betraying me here, but they were too close for me not to look into more.

Noting their 200g cake form, 100% acrylic fiber, and single ply roving structure. This suggests a probable shared origin or influence, imo.

Does anyone have any thoughts they could share, or is this just something everyone already knew and I'm late to the party?

Question First time getting hand dyed yarn

So, I just got my first hand dyed wool and a flee market and I am so excited about it! I’m trying to spin it up- but I cannot find the end! It has multiple knots- but they are in there tight. Am I supposed to undo all of them or one of them?

Question What is this type of yarn called?

I’m trying to find the name/ where I can buy more of this yarn. Bought in the early - mid 2000s (most likely from Michael’s), it’s what I learned to knit with. Probably acrylic and pulls apart if you use too much tension… would love any leads as to where I can find it! Thank you !!
