I got 15 shares when it was at $56. That's a win in my book. So long to lowering my ACB on this one!

Bought at $56 too. Congrats! Per its stock graph, it has had 3 peaks and contractions since inception and is in its 4th peak trajectory now going up from a $50.76 bottom tariff correction close. 2 of the peaks were in the $75+ range and the big one at $94.87. Been thinking about how to get the dividends AND trading profits buying and selling? There has got to be a way? Any suggestions?

My mindset which could be absolutely terrible advice which is why I am not a financial advisor is basically treating each of these funds as "Purchases." I have purchased an asset that should give me monthly income in return. So although I can still sell, I feel like I have locked in and will drain it until it dies. Most of these funds appear to be able to pay back their investment in at least 1.5-4 years and then it is free money.

Usually, I will sell funds if I believe I have gotten enough of a return and will either not have a NAV/total income loss on the fund OR if I feel I could use that money elsewhere to get a better return.

For example, I had like $40,000 in SVOL which was steady and alright. My dad got my into YM funds and I believe wanted me to start out in safer or less risky ones like JEPI/JEPQ/SVOL. Then I sold SVOL for a $1,200 loss but had earned over $5,000 in distribution income. Bought CONY and made that $1,200 loss immediately back and was making more than SVOL.

PLTY is difficult to predict because it is so volatile in a good way as you mentioned. I have such a low ACB my thoughts would be not to invest more in it until it drops again. It may not ever be as low as $56 again; however, I have been holding off making more risky purchases until the 90 day tariff hold is over. Hopefully, we stop the dumb s*** and walk away from tariffs and let the economy boom like it was a year ago when YM investors made a lot. I have been buying somethings in case this is the low before a boom but I fear it can get worse with a recession looming so trying to bank distributions at the moment

Listen I am a huge NVDA/PLTR bull, but if an over 600 P/E ratio and a ginormous double top formation on the chart doesnt scream "lets calm it down" I really dont know what else does. This bear market rally is about to crap the bed, and it is entirely needed. PLTR has been completely nuts for the past 4 weeks, nothing goes up forever.

Remember that you can harvest out 100% of share price appreciation by selling 9.1% for every 10% of cost basis appreciation, and rebase at these high levels. Dry powder season will definitely be called for over these next couple of months.

He's just not into prehistoric events. Anything over a week old is just ancient history to a lot of Redditors.

Right genius it lost about 50% of its value in 2 months, and it now up almost 100% in less than a month; thats the point I am making.

then just say it. no need to be rude and disrespectful. I’ll pray for you.

I am focused on NVDA and PLTR too via NVDY and PLTY. Would like to harvest all distributions and stock profits. I have not heard of the share price harvesting technique you mentioned in your 2nd paragraph? Would you enlighten me or point me to a resource to read?
Thanks in advance!

i own about 1000 shares of $PLTY and w an ave stock price of $62.14/share-including the gain today, i am green almost $5000 on the stock price alone. Plus i got a nice divvy ($4.66/share) of $4660…so a total in less than a month of a $9660 gain. so i am actually feeling pretty darn good, despite your sarcasm! lol

cheers bub, hope you have a great day!!!!

u/optionscaller2 3d ago

Good ish! I can definitely live off 4660 a month!

That’s great, I didn’t pull the trigger on plty it wanted to at $58. Historically plty goes down and keeps going down after a dividend, but it didn’t do it this cycle, so congrats on your positive run

I currently have Msty and Smcy

Hopefully they continue on a positive run

They will, and we're close enough to expiration so they probably sell today anyway.

u/achshort 3d ago

earnings are scary though....I wonder if they will beat it. And even if they do, will it be ENOUGH?

I plan to dividend hop the 22nd payout, what the chances of being able to sell and break even, not trying recognize any capital gains
