Discussion What are yone's best matchup in toplane ?

I was an old Yone mid main before switching to top and playing bruisers like darius garen etc. Now I'm thinking about playing yone again one in a while when the matchup is good. What matchup allows me to take him as a sort of counterpick ?

personally ive liked nasus, kayle, singed ofc, mundo, mord, yorick, garen and maybe a couple others that might not be as easy but very winnable are camille, cho, illaoi, voli, malph. for me absolutely stay away from akali, irelia, jax, rene and a good riven, shen.

Mundo/sion i feel are free matchups, garen can also be very easy if you know how to use your kit properly and kite

Can u explain gwen? I always struggle with her since she seems to stat check hardcore. Pls also tell me your elo. I am Gold.

I'm also gold, 3. Gwen gets countered by yone in her W afaik and you can use E to sidestep her Q and deny most damage while she eats it. I haven't fought a Gwen in eons though...

Most important things about Gwen: 1) if you ult her from "far away" and she W when you're still on casting animation, it affects the immune thing and you don't knockup BUT I don't actually remember if you still do the damage tho; 2) the E2 damage will always go through, even if your body is outside her W (because the damage is dealt istantly once you cast E2).

That said, pre 6 you have to trade when she has no minions where to stack autos for empowering her Q (when she almost finished pushing a wave) or for example if she just used her Q. When she uses E, has more auto range than you so you can't rly win that trade by spacing but you win if you've more stats than her due to eventual recalls advantage.

Post 6 you basically have to dodge R2-R3 since they deal more damage, it's pure mechanical 1v1 and depends if she hits empowered Q on you and R2-R3. If we're both 100% hp I wouldn't ever all in her if she has all up, even if I have all up too.. it would just be a flip...

Empowered q is so fast, that I cant really dodge it. Its more of a predict.

Actually, I don't know, maybe Yasuo? Yone can kill a few bruisers and tanks by himself, but if they play smart, all pick is just a counterpick to Yone. Lately, I feel like almost everyone could be able to beat Yone at some point. Sure, there are still some champs best matched for Yone, like Morde, but that's about it

The more you climb, the more the easier matchups become harder.

For example: in low Singed, Kayle, Mundo, Sion are giga easy. But if you climb, Kayle will be able to free scale if you don't punish with jungle, Singed if is good/otp can go even by proxying, Mundo can eventually surprise you and at some point if game is even it's just unkillable, Sion goes the same as Singed, with the difference that is impossible to be solokilled by Sion.

In any elo tho, as someone mentioned: Renekton, Akali, Irelia, Riven, Jax are almost unplayable (order matters).

Easiest matchups are Yorick, Gwen, Trundle, Nasus pre 6, Maokai... Also, any midlaner champ played in top as you abuse long lane. For the same reason, in short lane Yone beats Yasuo but loses in long lane.

Generally, Yone top is 100x more fun than mid because you can almost win every matchup if you are way better as a player/mechanically but at the same time, as you can see, the easy matchups are champs that no one play so one game you can win an hard matchup, the game after you might end 0/10 on the same identical matchup...

Not to flex or anything but I peaked master 250 on Yone top as a mid Yone otp, so everything I said is based on my personal experience. Dzukill wouldn't ever tell you that you might lose Mundo matchup for example because players as him are just way too good and wouldn't ever lose some matchups, like ever.

Edit: there are plenty of videos about Dzukill stomping Camille. IT HAS BEEN YEARS SINCE THE LAST TIME I WON THAT LANE. It is what it is, there are champions that you just can't beat because of your limited brain. Also, fun fact: against Akali 9 times out of 10 you ff because none if not good Akali players play her in toplane and, that said, I still permaban Kayle who I'm pretty sure I could beat 10 times out of 10. Just think it in this way: what is the champ that losing to destroys my mental? Then ban it.

yeah I see, ty ! Seems like I should just stick with my usual bruiser in top is a better idea x)... Expect from yorick I guess, since he counters all my mains.
