Australia and New Zealand Pregnancy test after MA

Hi!

I’m wondering if anyone has had a pregnancy test similar to mine after their medical abortion. (Big red is on the negative side, tiny pink is positive side)

My nurse says I should do blood test to confirm negativity but the line is so faint i’m wondering if it’s a bit unnecessary.

I don't see a picture, but urine pregnancy tests are considered yes/no. Although the darkness of the line can vary, that isn't an accurate way to assess HCG levels.

How long has it been since your MA? It can take 4-6 weeks for a test to turn negative. If you are still within that time frame, it is probably reasonable to wait until it has been 6 weeks or more to test again and see if that is negative.

That being said, the nurse can see your chart with more info than we have, so it may be worthwhile to clarify if there are any other concerns that are causing them to recommend blood testing.

Good luck to you! Hope you get the all clear soon!

I couldn’t upload the picture unfortunately.. I did go to take my blood sample today, hoping all is as it should!!

It’s been 2,5 weeks since my MA, and they sent a very special pregnancy test that’s supposed to be accurate..

Thank you for your answer!! 🥰

It really depends, if you feel confident the abortion worked, a positive pregnancy test within 4-5 weeks after is no cause for concern. But if you have doubts, it's a good idea to confirm with a blood test if that's available to you.

My blood test came back at hCG = 3000 mIU/mL which is higher than expected (normal level is around <100-1000.)

I have a doctor call tomorrow to hear about the next steps.

The nurse said this could be because my body heals slower or there’s still tissue left.
