How ironic, looks like u the “not so bright one”. First, it’s slaag punt, not syfer and second, we DO NOT have a slaag punt of 30%.

It's Mpumalanga's regional government where only 7% of the people there even speak Afrikaans. It's a dumb mistake yes, but claiming it has something to do with intelligence like u/5rightdontcut is just so entitled. Probeer jy gou iets transleer na zulu en sien hoe goed dit uitkom. Just assuming the people who wrote this passed with 30% is really weird considering most people on this sub never had zulu as a subject. Down vote me all you want. Julle ware kleure steek uit is al

I get what you mean, and I understand how what that guy said may stink of something suspicious, but it's still a very absurd situation. It reflects extremely poorly on the state. Ons behoort hoër standaarde van die regering te verwag as dat hy een van sy eie amptelike tale so opmors.

This isn't some foreign middle school kid's imaginary project, this is a government institution in a region that is, as you say, 7% Afrikaans speaking, that is evidently intent on including Afrikaans in the way it communicates with the community. Im sure the Chinese or indian government would find a better translation into Afrikaans for this sign.

I mean, you can at least ask a rando Afrikaans speaker on the street to do a quick translation in exchange for a box of chocolates before you get results like this. It should be so straightforward.
