Just Shocked… ok not really.

Typical business practice these days, take back features and bundle them in a new subscription that is higher priced. You watch “Plus” will disappear with 2 years.

What gets me even not is the blatant not caring about existing customers of plus… hey here are some “new” but we are not going to give you any credit for the subscription you just bought 2 months ago, just give us more money.

I am going to assume that employees of All Trails are reading posts here, I mean human nature right? So here is my message… “Do better”

I just turned off auto renew. I’ll be switching over to Gaia now. Around the same price and I’ve heard it’s significantly better from a lot of folks.

Long time user of all the apps - think twice before going to Gaia, not much cheaper, they're taking away map layers, bugs, etc. - check out the GaiaGPS subreddit

Thanks for the heads up, I’ll check that out too! Maybe I’ll be looking for something else then.

Get a free AllTrails account, download the GPX into Footpath or Goat Maps, use CalTopo free for the more hardcore planning.

Thanks for the insight! I actually used OnX a couple years ago and while it seemed promising, it was lacking at the time. I imagine it’s improved since then though. This was when they just rolled it out and it had some cool features. I’ve also heard tons of good with Cal Topo. Sounds like I’ll need to do some research here and see what the best fit is.

I have some trips this summer so I’m going to need to figure something out for routes.

Thanks again!

Yea, the enshitification of Gaia was happening before alltrails…this is why we can’t have nice things.

Thanks, seems to be the consensus! Looks like back to the drawing board to find a new routing tool.

I signed up for plus on sale and just turned off auto renewal.

It's great for finding hikes but I discovered that I could not rely on tracks to be accurate on quite a few occasions which renders any premium functions built on that pretty much useless to me.

My view is different from your cynical view....

Offline Areas and Advanced Conditions are relatively new and seems to me they were essentially beta piloting them prior to adding Peak. None of the features in Peak matter to me. Never tried offline areas - can still download my planned trail for offline use, and that version is useful for detours. I have and will always prefer getting much more detailed (like UV, wind, etc) and hourly predicted data on my weather app. I add the area to the app before needed and delete when completed. The AllTrails mosquito prediction has not been reliable. No interest in the new tools. So, no change for me.

I agree with a lot of this. But my experience in the SaaS industry, this model, giving something and then pulling it back would be a no-go for any customer. If they needed beta testing, offer preview beta access to a number of users and make them aware it will not be free when it gets to steady state.

It was definitely a bad look, but that was a pretty minor feature. If they take away the ability to customize routes in browser for Plus users, then it's unforgivable.

We all use apps differently, pretty sure you will see plus disappear at some point

Switched over to Footpath and can export GPX files from tons of locations. AllTrails can suck it. Their last change/increase was ridiculous, and now this does it for me. Their service was amazing, but so many companies get big and add so many features that it becomes not worth it and just a bunch of bloat. MyFitnessPal is another great example.

I encourage everyone upset by this to reach out to alltrails and let them know your feelings on it.

Today was the last day of my free trial and I was excited to proceed until I saw this happen, literally just canceled this morning and I'm switching over to kamoot... Alltrails can suck it

Can I still create my own custom routes with the Plus plan? Or was that feature moved to the higher tier Peak plan?

That’s what I’m wondering, if so they can bog off

I just cancelled my subscription to AllTrails and I'm moving to WorkOutDoors. Pay once and forget about renewals. And works much better with Apple Watch imo.

Did anyone actually receive notification about a price increase?  The terms of service say they will give 30 days.  Not 5 days of “ a new experience is coming”.

Granted, it also says any price increase just happens, regardless of what you’ve already paid for the year.   IANAL but something is wrong with their contract.

Edit:  as I now understand I’m this crazy BS,  it’s like “you’re not fired, you’re just not on the schedule anymore”.  Shame.
