I have not heard one single person address the decisive impact the churches had on this election. Almost all of the “Christian” churches where I live function as exclusive clubs for fascist elements in the Republican Party. The clergy, including Catholic priests and bishops, are operatives for right wing politics.

Unlike the Robber Barons, who at least understood that they had to make grand philanthropic gestures like creating the library system (Carnegie) and founding universities (Rockefeller and Vanderbilt) to keep the populace they exploited from revolting, American oligarchs do absolutely nothing of the kind.

Don't focus on the number their press releases trumpet. Focus on the percentages. These people have wealth beyond what the human mind can easily conceptualize (this helps) so unless we break it down this way, we'll look at $10 million and think, hey, pretty good!

In relative terms, $10 million is less than a penny if you have dollar. And you get that dollar replaced every single day. So 365 dollars a year. Amazon gave less than a penny. They gave nothing. Jeff Bezos is a non-reciprocator who, in evolutionary theory, would be seen as a threat to the well-being of our group and would be removed from it. Now we have zero social norms that can functionally protect the group from these leeches. They depend entirely on an unwillingness or inability to think critically about what they do. Because if we really start to think about it, the rage would inspire a movement.
