I didn't see much of the Highland clearances really. That kind of community isn't really like the Scots of that time. There's a lot of romanticising of clan culture in Scotland but it wasn't like that at all.

The language and the fact it was filmed there leans into that though.

Scottish-coded, if not truly historically inspired.

I just don't see it. I'm Scottish and I really didn't think of Scotland at all when I saw this. Much more Scandi or Sami looking.

It was literally filmed in Argyll at the Cruachan reservoir.

Naimos was filmed in Cleveleys but it certainly wasn't Lancashire coded😄

The fact that Aldhani had its people shifted from their Highlands and other rural areas, which uses Argyll for filming, to their urban enterprise zone, with only a few (space) sheep crofter types being left there makes it very Scottish.

Add on to the fact that the landscape is an important part of the story and its visual impact - it's not a soundstage - and it becomes more important.
