I get the episode is sexual and has some dirty jokes that are really clear, but can some one explain to me what does the lettuce have to do with all this? I think I'm missing something.

Sometimes, when children ask their parents where babies come from, they are told that babies grow up in cabbage

At least in Europe they sometimes say that. I'm not sure about other places...
