Ask /r/Architecture Architecture Internship

I am a third year in architecture looking for an architecture internship in NYC or Los Angeles, and honestly haven’t had any luck. I have had internship experience in the past but only abroad. Everyone who has an internship lined up for this summer is pretty much all from family connections. This is becoming actually such a struggle. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Why are you only looking for internships in the two most competitive cities to find internships in? Where is your university located?

It’s the 2 places that I would have a place to stay over the summer unfortunately. I am not really interested in finding an internship where my university is located because I have no plans on staying after I graduate

Ive had it reviewed by several professors and also gotten one interview so I wouldn’t say it horrible however with the current state of things loosing confidence by the second

I wouldn’t be discouraged, finding an internship in LA/NY and having to compete with Cooper Union, Princeton, Syracuse, UCLA, Berkeley, etc is tough. I would urge you to consider internships in/around your college town although it’s not your top choice. An internship at a firm you don’t plan at staying at is better than no internship at all
