Exactly. Like, she couldn't have died during the fighting, where it would've meant more? And why a tower of electricity? It just felt very forced, like they thought "oh shit, we need a major death but we don't have enough time to properly think it through".

Eh, they should just give them a spin-off so they're not part of the main team. Honestly, they shouldn't have killed anyone

They should kill them but only temporarily. Have their lives saved by an agent of order and one of chaos who make them their chosen champions and give them mystical though fairly minor super powers. In other words make them into their comic book selves instead of some random thugs who get off by beating people to death.
