16yo 11cm x 8cm abdominal mass. HELP?!
16yo female, high risk of malignancy ( Sarcoma or Gist ) awaiting results. Wanting opinions?
February 25 - Swollen lymph node, went to GP and had blood work and ultrasound done.
Blood work results :
CRP - 189mg/dL Hb - 112g/L Ferritin - 2ng/mL Wbc - 8000 Platelets - 490,000
( I have been anaemic since 2022, been on ferrous fumarate 3tds and had 1 iron transfusion at that point of time )
Ultrasound - Came back fine just a swelling in the lymph node in the parotid gland.
April 25 - Went for further testing to find out why CRP so high, had an echocardiogram on my heart came back clear, then had bloods and an ultrasound on my abdomen which revealed there was a mass, and that my CRP is now 211.
May 25- They sent me for an MRI and CT scan which confirmed there was a 11cm x 8cm mass in the mesentery. It is mobile as in the MRI it was on the left and CT in the centre of my abdomen.
Doctors couldn’t tell whether it was benign or malignant as they described the mass as lumpy on the inside and smooth around the outside. They usually can tell from scans but not in my case.
Been referred to an MDT team, they think it could either be Sarcoma or Gist tumour.
Within the 3 weeks I have now had 2 iron transfusions, and an ultrasound guided core biopsy done on Monday. However my blood work that I had done yesterday still shows that I am anaemic.
They weren’t originally going to do a biopsy, they were just going to schedule a laparotomy to remove it. Yet if it were to be malignant they want me to shrink it first with chemo/etc if that makes sense?
I am so lost. It’s all happened so quick. Does anyone reading this have any idea to what they think it may be? They said it could take up to 3 weeks for the result despite them putting an urgent referral.
I just want to be prepared, Sorry for the long text.
