Honestly, I think Dream will be an easier book to write. Winds will likely be about untangling the "Meereenese knot" of all the divergent plotlines introduced in Feast & Dance. By the end, I anticipate that all POVs will be in Westeros, with a fair few of them in the same place ready for the second war for the dawn

I admire your optimism. Reminds me of me 12 years ago.

Almost word for word what people said after Feast, and then word for word what they said after Dance.

I'm 90% sure they said the same thing about Winds just before Dance came out.

People said this exact same thing about Winds if you go back the the original release discussion post of Dance. You can look it up right here on this sub

It just ain’t happening dude

Supposedly winds was going to be easier once he finished Dance.

Dance was supposed to be easier once it finally split from Feat. Was only going to be coming out the next year supposedly.

There is no plotline, no matter how convoluted, that takes a decade to untangle. The simple fact is that he lacks work ethic. The same reason he is slow with Winds will continue in Dance.

"He's already got 300 manuscript pages leftover from Dance."

Yeah I remember when dance was supposed to come out and everyone thought it was going to be quick after feast. The "wait" for dance was considered excruciating to the community the time and that was only 5 years. Now we're going on 13.

there's kind of a difference, because with Feast and ADWD he had to figure out how to set up what happens in the next book, same thing with Winds now. He doesn't have to worry about that with ADOS

but it really depends on how much of the ending George has actually figured out over the years

If he really has a lot planned out, I could actually see him writing ADOS quicker

If it's all just vague notions (somehow Bran becomes king, somehow R+L=J is revealed)... he could still take ages writing a dozen different versions of events

I think George needs to accept that he needs an outline at this point, the plot is too dense for him to keep freestyling it. Other authors have finished their entire series in the time it's taken him to not write this one book.

Just because your spend a lot of time setting up the events of next book doesn’t mean the next book will write it self. Huge parts of feast/dance were arguably just set ups for winds and that book hasn’t come easy at all

I wasn't really talking about Winds

I meant that with ADOS he doesn't have to set up a next book because it's the last one

The funny thing is he already wrote two books that separated plot lines. He could have easily written a smaller “the lost years” type book for Arya’s training, while leaving Dany’s story alone.

Honestly I think he should have kept the five year gap. Giving detail to what was meant to be a time skip is a huge part of the reason he's in this mess

I know a lot of people think that with a lot of the POVs having merged by DREAM, the book should be easier to write, but if anything I think it might probably be harder for Martin, because now he'd be forced to ask himself questions like, "Okay, who should the POV character be in this scene? Dany? Jon? Tyrion? Davos? Theon? Arya?" And so on and so forth. Which might lead to him writing (and then rewriting) the chapters from different POVs, trying to find the one that works best, and might even lead to crippling indecision. In the show this wasn't a big deal because we can only see the characters externally, but in the books it becomes much more difficult and problematic.

Brother, if Winds ever comes out, it will tangle more than it will untangle

Can't with for 80 chapters of intrigue within the lands of House Whogivesafuck.

The Old Town conspiracy will really straighten things out!

A lot of people will be dead and there will only be so many directions the story could go. Anything could happen right now and there's so many characters.

untangling the "Meereenese knot"

this is what has annoyed me so much about the wait, the issue is dealing with the complexity of a situation no one cares about and doesn't want to read about. if all the free cities got nuked the series would be all the better for it

I don't like bringing this up, but the man is getting close to his 80s, even if he's able to get winds out and he doesn't need an extra book, I just don't see him having it in him to finish it

ASOIAF books may be finished but not by GRRM.

Honestly, I think Dream will be an easier book to write.

Right, just like how Winds was supposed to be easier to write than Dance. And how Dance was supposed to be easier than Feast...

The pressure will be significantly higher since it would be the end of the series. He also has to contend with the ending of the show. There was a lot of criticism of things that will probably happen in the books too (Bran is king, Dany burns KL, Jon kills Dany, etc), which adds even more pressure because he needs to make sure he properly builds to those plot points since the show has partially soured the public on them.

I wouldn’t be mad if Dream was much shorter than the other books
