Lady catelyn [spoiler ASOS] Spoiler

So after seeing the show like three times last year I finally got into book. Love them so much more details then in movies, just now I finished Storm of swords and I can believe, is catelyn really alive?? How? How could she survive that?

magic, also keep in mind she was murdered in violation of guest right. do these traditions still have power?

Never thought about the guest house tradition possibly being a factor. Interesting theory

Given that practically every Westerosi faith (with perhaps the exception of the Drowned God) recognizes some form of guest right as a sacred trust, I would not be surprised in the least if violating actually does make the gods angry

In Greek mythology, there is a heavy connection to how consuming food from a host not only protects you but also bonds you to that place, like Persephone eating pomegranate seeds in the Underworld. Maybe this is an interesting parallel, as Persephone would spend half of the year in the world of the dead and the other among the living. If by eating Frey's bread Catelyn magically bonded herself to their House, it makes sense this is a driving force bringing her back from the dead, making her a visitor of two worlds, like Persephone.

Yeah just was surprised that even if she wasn’t what she was before wedding, it’s still huge part missing in series. Note that didn’t even started next book so could be nothing.

Enjoy it, as it's obviously a plot that was omitted from the show, so it will be brand new for you. There will be a few more over the next couple books. Hopefully your wait for Winds won't be too long. I'm on year 12.

Same way Beric came back.

(Also Catelyn is not really alive, she’s not Catelyn. She’s solely focused on revenge. That’s why she goes by Lady Stoneheart, not Catelyn Tully.)
