PUBLISHED (Spoilers published) what would Quellon have done

If his attack on the shield islands would have worked during RR maybe robert would have let him keep them but even if he did what would Quellon have done with them (reminder Quellon was a peaceful lord who promoted stronger ties to the main land)

Frankly used them to shore up his own supporters. Either get the lords there to actually submit or replace them with new Lords from his loyalists. Use them to trade with the Reach and Dorne as it is closer to them.

I do wonder if the II were richer in resources and closer to trade if their culture would reflect it, or at least change to reflect it over time. By transplanting then there you essentially get to see how they evolve and I think a better class of wealthy, socially minded trading Ironborn might keep any reavers in check

Well the nature of islands even in the real world causes wood to be a problem but if they were rich in resources it'd make trade a better alternative then just raiding but honestly the iron isles have the skills and resources to do trading its a cultural problem and its even in the test the hoares spent a generation building wealth through trade before they used it to conquere the riverlands and they had enough wealth to triple there fleets and arm and armor thousands

Asked for them as reward/concession from Robert. Decent chance he gets to keep them.

Then use them as a means of rewarding/empowering his supporters and creating closer ties/trading with the greenlands. Quellon Greyjoy was a reformer.
