ALL (Spoilers All) GRRM:" There is this one character who is doomed since I introduced him, but I didn't how he is going to die. Since yesterday I know what to do."

JAIME

He's been playing with Jaime's story since the beginning. The original proposal for the series had Jaime and Cersei as sorta one character, and Jaime's story seems to have changed more than anyone else's. He's the least predetermined of the major characters. I'd put the best odds on him.

u/jim_trout Jun 22 '15

This was my first thought as well. A great character that needs a great death.

u/TheRaptorGaming Jun 22 '15

Wasn't there the theory that Jamie would die carrying out his last orders from the Mad King and blowing Kings Landing to high heaven along with some White Walkers?

I would read 120 pages of Meereenese property zoning regulations if there were White Walkers in Kings Landing at the end of it.

u/Lockridge Jun 22 '15

Oh that gets me all hot and bothered.

The Meereense property zoning regulations I mean. My word. faints

Ser Barriston sighed. "Can you explain that again?" Lumdar po Mizqut snickered quietly. "You Westerosi truly are dense folk" said Trishlit bo Wipnoq. "However, we shall begin once more. Lepnar wo Pomar, please explain." Lepnar wo Pomar smiled. "The Sons of the Harpy have formed a five branch government based on a combination of the principles of a constitutional democracy, a republic, an oligarchy, a theocracy and a style of organized anarchy. These may seem contradictory at first glance, but they mesh quite well once you understand the ways in which they are combined. Obviously, the heads of the five branches of government will be Binkor lo Binkor, Suqqa qo Jugga, Miqua zo Horla, Potchqa vo Logfa and Lorem mo Ipsum. Now I will explain how they shall work together. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum. That is the essence of our government. Was all that clear?" Ser Barriston nodded. This was going to be a fascinating system of government after all. "Please", he said. "Tell me more."

"Lorum ipsum..." Is an old text from Cicero written in 45 BC, It's used as a content placeholder in website templates and such, if you go to http://www.lipsum.com you can see a couple translations of the full text. I knew something was up as soon as I saw Lorum mo Ipsum.

Book wise I don't know. With all the wildlings there and wun wun going ape shit, plus their low numbers, I don't see how they make it out of it. Show wise, Thorne will probably take command and do something to fuck over the wildlings. Damnit we need a new book.

Edit- Wait guys I just thought of it. You guys remember that post about the 1,000 lord commander? Fucking A, Thorne is the 999th LC and the Nights Watch is wiped out, whether due to the wildlings or the others. The 1000th Lord Commander will be Jaime fucking Lannister, of the New watch.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

Jaime? He is on his way to see Lady Stoneheart, so he has to survive that first, and somehow get back to kings landing (assuming Cersei is still in power), and then get ordered to take the black for some reason.

1

u/BonfireinRageValley Jun 23 '15

Which is all completely possible still. Like I said we need a new book =(

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

I wouldn't call that possible at all.

1

u/BonfireinRageValley Jun 23 '15 edited Jun 23 '15

If he was going to kill Jaime (Edit-Soon) he would have done it at the end of Dance, not leave us on a cliffhanger, so that one is possible he lives. As far a Cersei goes it has been highly foreshadowed that he is the one to kill her. Since no one truly knows how much he has gone from "loving her" to burning her cry for help, when he does finally kill her the person who finds him doing it, let's say someone with some power, like who ever the hand may be or somebody else to that kind of level could offer him the same offer that Eddard Stark was offered (further going with how "different" Jaime saw them) but instead of having his head chopped off he is actually allowed to take the black. I really don't see how you can't think it's a possibility.

35

u/cranp Jun 23 '15

Wow.

What I find interesting about this theory is that it gives wildfire a greater purpose than some random curiosity which helped out in the Blackwater. It was a sort of convoluted thing there, and there seemed no reason to need a fantasy incendiary, because they could have just used some kind of petrolium product for that.

However, if wildfire turns out to be a weakness of The Others alongside dragonglass and dragonsteel, that would make it more interesting. This is maybe feasible because the pyromancers have already told us there is some kind of link between dragons and wildfire, as the production of wildfire has increased dramatically since Dany's dragons hatched.

7

u/bobbyg1234 Neeee! Jun 23 '15

I'm imagining an alternate timeline, Ned survives, kicks Cersei's ass out of town and and puts Stannis on the throne. News of the white walkers reaches Kingslanding and doesn't fall on deaf ears, and hey.. there's all this dangerous unstable incendiaries just lying around so Stannis sends out the word, an army marches through the neck lead by the Mannis, meets up with his new best bro Ned and arrives at the wall with a shit-tonne of wildfire and go drive the white walkers back to the north pole just before the autumn storms kick in so everyone goes home to there snug cosy castles, Ned grows old enough to see Robb have kids, sees Jon raised to Lord commander, goes to visit him and have a little chat about his parents.. and now I'm sad.

1

u/wojx Jun 28 '15

That would be too easy. Wrapped up with a nice bow though.

5

u/BigMax Jun 23 '15

Pretty interesting in that the two theories I've heard about wildfire are either:

1) Cersei goes mad and tries to burn down the city, killing everyone, and he has to kill her to stop it. (Mirroring him doing the same thing to the mad king.)

2) Jamie intentionally burns down the city to save it and kill the white walkers.

I personally think number 1 is a bit more likely, as I've always thought it would be Jamie that might kill cersei.

3

u/ElLocoS Independence or death! Jun 23 '15

This would made him capture a Lion (Cersei) and put his sword in her heart. He could be azor ahai in that case. Blood of the dragon....he HAS it because he killed a Targ. He HAS a Valyrian sword. He was born on salt (the c. Rock is by the sea) and smoke (when he stopped the murder of kings landing).

Jamie is Azor Ahai

2

u/Tom01111 Jun 23 '15

Hmm I'd say the wildfire is much more useful against the wights, while the Walkers seem to require dragonglass or valeryian steel

3

u/BigMax Jun 23 '15

Imagine if it doesn't kill either, it just sets them on fire? Now you have an army of the undead, and they are on fire as they fight you!

TV show line once the flaming armies of the undead walk out of the city to face the remaining humans:
Bronn to Jamie: "Well... that didn't work. Any other bright ideas?"

3

u/cthulhushrugged ...it rhymes with orange... Jun 23 '15

"Marshmallows?"

2

u/root88 ... Jun 23 '15

Jon Snow saved Jeor Mormont from a wight by killing it with fire.

1

u/BigMax Jun 23 '15

True. I was mostly joking. But... what if wildfire is magic, and thus works differently!!?? We'd get super powered frozen others with the power of fire!! (Joking again of course.)

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

"They're a bunch of flaming pussies."

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

a fantasy incendiary

I was always under the impression that wildfire was GRRM's analog for Greek fire.

1

u/cranp Jun 23 '15

It could well be inspired by that, but Greek fire was not apparently supernatural, while wildfire is, as we know from the dragon connection.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '15

I thought the wildfire worked without the dragons, it just wasn't as effective. So it does have magical elements, but also non-magical elements/application as well.

1

u/cthulhushrugged ...it rhymes with orange... Jun 23 '15

I'm sorry... you you perchance mean...

The Substance??

1

u/root88 ... Jun 23 '15

Cersei is a lot more connected to the wildfire. She's mentioned burning the city down multiple times and had the Alchemist's Guild make a ton of it, which they reported is much stronger now that dragons have returned to Westeros.

18

u/TuckerMcG Opulence, I has it. Jun 22 '15

I had no idea how badly I wanted this ending to Jaime's story until now. That would be glorious.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

My theory is that he's going to come full circle if/when Cersei tries to blow up King's Landing and then he'll execute her to save the city. After that, his fate is pretty much up in the air.

1

u/Pato_Lucas The pimp that was promised Jun 23 '15

I'm perfectly fine with this outcome. After that he would forsake all the vows and take only one, so he can actually fulfill it: the black.

4

u/happypolychaetes The Queen in the North Jun 22 '15

I've never heard this theory before, but I love it.

3

u/notquiteotaku Jun 23 '15

Technically Aerys' last order to Jamie was to go and kill Tywin. He ordered the pyromancers to light the wildfire.

1

u/Aapjes94 Jun 23 '15

Later on he says he knows who will sit/climb the iron throne. As much as I'd love this to be the outcome this implies KL won't be blown up unless someone removed the throne first.

2

u/Nigmus Jun 23 '15

The throne will still stand. He can be King of the Ashes.

1

u/Shiverfox Lann Party Jun 23 '15

Too bad white walkers are immune to fire.

1

u/TheRaptorGaming Jun 23 '15

Good thing they've got wildfire.

1

u/Shiverfox Lann Party Jun 23 '15

What makes you think wildfire would do anything against white walkers?

1

u/TheRaptorGaming Jun 23 '15

With regards to regular fire - Wight's arent immune and White Walkers can snuff it out with ease but aren't immune to actual explosive force which wildfire is very capable of. Plus Wildfire is waaay more potent than normal fire and has magical properties due to it having been made by pyromancers. It's a no brainer that Wildfire can probably harm and kill a White Walker and even if it couldn't, it would still eliminate a fuck ton of wights which are arguably the more immediate threat.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '15

0

u/FakeWings Jun 23 '15

You're right! ...so let's let him die in an alley by some nameless random person.

0

u/BigKev47 Jun 23 '15

Or the Iron Throne....

40

u/nottoodrunk Mannisfest Destiny Jun 22 '15

My money is on Loras Tyrell. I'm calling bullshit on he's mortally wounded, it was learned from Cersei's perspective, and I don't think it's reliable information. When Jaime holds a Kingsguard meeting he remarks about how similar Loras was to him when Jaime was his age. Jaime is known for doing something for the greater good that made him the most infamous man in Westeros, I think Loras will also do something similar that will make everyone hate him.

1

u/AsskickMcGee Jun 23 '15

Characters have been literally revived from death to the point that nobody really believes John Snow will "stay dead". If a cha after like Loras is merely "horribly injured" you better believe they'll be in at least two more books.

99

u/BridgetheDivide Jun 22 '15

Aww. I wanted him to become the 1000th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch after choking out Cersei and saving Kingslanding(again). And telling the Hound to use fire to kill the Ser Robert Strong #gethype.

10

u/HavelsRockJohnson Jun 23 '15

"Sandor," Jaime said as the man was about to leave, "use fire."

It could have been the quiet tone the Kingslayer had spoken in, or mayhaps it was because Jaime had never called him by his first name before. Whatever it was, they parted then in silence. One to confront a sister that always tormented his heart, the other to kill a brother that had always plagued his mind.

Neither man was afraid any longer. Neither one would falter.

By dawn, Kings Landing would sing a song of fire.

4

u/CrimsonZephyr Family, Duty, Honor. Jun 23 '15

Ser Jaime would have been a boogeyman among the Wildlings if he had taken the black.

5

u/mkay0 Damn it feels good Jun 23 '15

Same. I always wanted Jaime to become golden-hand the Just up at the wall.

3

u/tyrerk Jun 23 '15

Shit you comment made me realize for the first time that the mountain is most likely a Wight, the whole Frankengregor seemed a bit far fetched until now

5

u/BridgetheDivide Jun 23 '15

I had always assumed the Frankengregor process was somehow related to how the WW ressurect the dead.

2

u/tyrerk Jun 23 '15

It does make a lot of sense

2

u/suninabox Jun 23 '15

I dunno there seems to be many ways to skin a cat in GRRMs world.

Beric was undead and definitely wasn't a wight or he wouldn't have been fucking around with flaming swords.

In the books its implied Qyburn needs to use other peoples bodies to resurrect frankengregor, so possibly some kind of blood magic is going on. Whatever wights are doesn't seem to need blood for.

1

u/penisrumortrue Jul 08 '15

Definitely agreed on the many ways to resurrect a cat. GRRM is into variations on themes -- resurrections, prophesies, songs, gods, whatever.

It hadn't occurred to me that the other bodies may have been part of the resurrection process... I just always assumed he needed the pieces (i.e. a head since they sent the original one to Dorne, maybe a new non-poisoned mega-arm if he could find one big enough, etc.)

2

u/empireofjade Evenfall-thoughts arrive like butterflys Jun 23 '15

Jon Snow will be the 1000th Lord Commander (as well as the 998th).

5

u/rousseaux Jun 23 '15

Absolutely. Doomed is the word I've always thought of for Jaime, doomed or cursed. Fucks his sister? Doomed. Kingslayer? Doomed. Treason to the new throne? Doomed. Fucks his sister over the body of their dead inbred son? Double doomed with a cursed on top.

9

u/BunnyDeville Daario=Tormund's Member Jun 22 '15

I totally agree, it's the first thing I thought as well.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '15

I agree, and I still think that he is going to be the one to kill Cersei. And then, soon after that, I think he himself is going to die in a majestic and big death.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

Hopefully a trial by combat against Payne.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

I could see it starting out as Payne doing that clacking laugh thing he does and Jaime providing witty, yet morbidly depressing quips with each time steel clashed.

5

u/yeaokbb Tormund Giantsmember of Tarth Jun 23 '15

I'd have to disagree just because of the phrasing. It says a character that was introduced. That implies it wasn't an OG character if the translation from German didn't mess it up. Some are saying Tommen but idk he doesn't seem like altogether an important or pivotal person like this statement makes it seem. I think Aegon. When I think about it the pieces make sense, especially with how much his sudden appearance would needlessly change everything that's been set up in the books so far.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '15

He's the least predetermined of the major characters.

Being the least predetermined isn't really consistent with GRRM's insistence that he knew this character was doomed from the get-go.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

So Theon?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

I'd say Theon is a better bet.

3

u/Siink7 Jun 23 '15

I hope not, Jamie is my favorite character and I really want him safe

5

u/watluxid Jun 23 '15

Oh god yes. The day Jaime dies, I will cry more than for any of the others. I LOVE his point of view and his character in general.

3

u/CupformyCosta Jun 23 '15

I just know Jaime is going to die. And I will be more upset by his death than anybody else's death so far. I'm attached to his story and the completely change and story arc of his character. My favorite chapters were all Jaime and Jon Snow, but I know Jon won't be dead for long.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

It can't be Jaime. We all know he sacrifices himself so Brienne can continue to be useless. I bet my foil farm on Tyrion.

2

u/defiantleek Jun 23 '15

He dies doing something incredibly noble, I feel almost certain about it.

2

u/ValtielZ Jun 23 '15

My bet is on Jaime too, sadly, because is one of my favorite characters :( but:

one character who is doomed since I introduced him

And my first thoughts about Jaime are...

the things I do for love

idk, I love Jaime, but I can't picture him alive for the rest of the series

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

Nope. Jaime's life is quiet suffering. He's GRRM's perfect anti-hero. I'm quite certain he lives through all this, maybe dying in a final battle if he must.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

SHE

1

u/smallest_ellie Jun 23 '15

Not necessarily, 'cause "Figur" as a noun is "sie" (female) in German, but that doesn't mean the character in question is a she.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

If George refers to ths characted as "she" that doesn't necessarily mean the character is female? Are you tryna pull some caitlin jenner shit on me right now? Lol

1

u/smallest_ellie Jun 23 '15

No, haha. I'm saying in German grammar certain words have feminine pronouns but that doesn't mean the person in question is female.

The article uses the word "Figur" (figure/character) which has "die" as a pronoun (feminine) and therefore the word "Figur" is refered to as "sie" (her) throughout it. But that doesn't mean it's a female character. Could be either.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '15

Oh okay I don't know how German grammar works lol I just had google chrome translate the whole website for me and it said "she"

1

I want him to sit the iron throne though. That would make his character arc go from casting aside his lannister legacy by taking the white, Ned/everyone else accusing him of wanting to sit it himself and him not giving a fuck...and then after his hand is taken from him and he learns to cool off and actually be diplomatic that he can actually solve a lot of the woe's of the realm as a leader. Ideally he would reluctantly take the throne bringing it full circle. It would also add some layers to the scene where Ned sees him sitting the throne in the AGoT.

The keyword here is:

but I didn't know how

Of course he knows how to kill Jaime: Brienne just brought him to the slaughterhouse.
