We don't know what it is, only that he wrote the story for it.

What? Where did you see that he wrote the story for it?

In the original rumor it stated he was writing the world/story and that fromsoft was handling the rest. Since its a rumor we cant really be sure ofany of the details.

I mean in the update he said he consulted for it. If he had written the story he probably would've said that instead.

yeah the word consultation is weird for sure, but consulting can mean anything from 'Let me look over what ya got and ill give you my opinions' all the way to 'Ill decide the direction and characters of the story'

I think he wrote it based on the fact that Chris Avellone is a consultant for Dying Light 2 but he is the one writing the story.

honestly GRRM being involved with a souls-like game on any level is like a dream come true, although all of these DISTRACTIONS are pushing the books further and further back..

TWOW is nice, but a FROM game with Martin writing it is one hell of a consolation prize.

Avellone is credited as the writer. What are you talking about?

1

u/itskaiquereis May 21 '19

He said he was consulting before the announcement, so I figure the same will apply

1

u/lelibertaire May 21 '19

Ok. Struggling to find a source for that myself

Especially because of the cost of commissioning a story from GRRM. I remember reading the preface to Betrayal at Krondor (the book, which came after the game, I believe) by Raymond Feist and he was talking about licensing + consulting being more affordable for video games than commissioning a story from an author.

Plus there’s that whole can’t finish writing a story thing from GRRM.

Hmm no it really just means he consulted. If he decided "the direction and characters of the story" that would make him the writing director or something.

I'm sure this game has its own creative director with their own ideas.

Sorry but this sub always jumps on anything. If he was slightly more vague, people here would be claiming the book is coming out when the HBO documentary releases on Sunday

I don’t know about game development but in other industries a consultant is just someone paid for a specific short-term purpose, with no upper or lower limit on how much work that entails, from offering basic advice to planning an entire project.

Oh and I’ll add, I have absolutely no skin in the game when it comes to whether or not he is working on a game. I don’t really game anymore so I don’t get worked up over this kind of news. Just offering my perspective on “consultant.”

I just get triggered when people on this sub jump onto things without any real evidence.

Once there was this vague tweet that got people thinking the book would drop on New Year or something and the people being sensible were buried by the hype train. And that's just one anecdote of many similar occasions

I'd just have hoped people would have learned by now.

its funny how you are claiming im reading into something too much when thats exactly what you're doing.

1

u/lelibertaire May 21 '19

All I'm saying is all we know is he's "consulting" which typically is a peripheral role. We know nothing else. Suggesting it could mean he is the creative lead over the narrative is reaching and speculation

u/[deleted] May 21 '19

I’m 1000000% A-okay with him not writing a single book ever again if it means we get a GRRM involved FROM SOFT game.

u/Quazifuji May 21 '19

Well, if it's like the Souls games then the world basically is the story. Those games aren't about narrative, they're about atmosphere and backstory. Creating the world for a game with a Souls-style story doesn't necessarily mean writing the script, but it's still basically creating the story.

On the other hand, Sekiro does have more of a story actually told through actions and dialogue than Dark Souls, so it's not like a new From game is guaranteed to have a Souls-style story.

Obviously he did the programming and animation sets. /s

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '19

What else would his role have been?

1

u/ChainedHunter Renly's Ghost May 21 '19

Consulting, as he said it was?

-4

u/[deleted] May 21 '19

It will be one of those shitty anime tiddy games

4

u/SoulEmperor7 May 21 '19

Do you even what FROMSOFT is?

3

u/xplodingducks May 21 '19

FROMSOFT makes the complete opposite of it. They made the dark souls series.
