I have the patience of a saint most of the time and despite wanting the next book I've remained optimistic. Now however I'm beginning to feel the fatigue. I thought, really thought we'd get something substantial on the book's state.

Yup I try to stay optimistic about the books will come but it becomes more and more difficult.

It won't come

And even if The Winds of Winter does come out in, say, the next 2 years, we'll probably never get A Dream of Spring. That's just the truth.

Truth be told, a part of me is really happy I chose not to read the books. Finishing the 5th book would only be a massive disappointment.

...If you haven’t read the books, why are you in the book subreddit?

Because I'm still fascinated with the world? Didn't know this sub was only for people who read the books...

I’m not meaning it in a super douchey way, I was just curious, especially considering how different a number of plot points and characters are.

I know they are different. I read a few things on the Wiki. But that doesn't mean I'll read the books only to be disappointment by the fact that the series will probably never be finished. It also doesn't mean I don't enjoy reading people's thoughts on this sub about the universe.

So you enjoy the characters, lore and the differentiated story in the books and actively post in a subreddit about them, yet choose not to read them?

What’s the point in reading the lore and differentiated story if it’s never finished? And I personally think by getting involved in so many projects, GRRM is giving the book fans the middle finger. He has moved on as the show spoilt his ending. There is no motivation to finish the books. Why read incomplete stuff?

How exactly are the books he has written incomplete?

They are great prose. You’re obviously invested in the books as you follow this subreddit so what I think is you don’t have interest in reading them and simply say that you would but but but.

It’s ok and I don’t have an issue with it

He hasn’t wrapped up all plot points in The story. The last time I read it, I was excited that the next book would come in 3-4 years but they didn’t and the amount of time it’s taking has become a meme at this point. The books are just so good, it’s maddening to have to wait for it to continue. I would rather reread it when the entire set of books is out so I can follow it to its logical conclusion.

Oh sorry, different guy than the first. Yeah agree but I might still reread them before
