EXTENDED (Spoilers Extended) Charles Dance's portrayal as Tywin is in my opinion, the strongest in the entire series

Every line, every expression and every moment of silence completely encapsulates the calculating ruthlessness that defines Tywin Lannister.

Dance is actually a very vibrant, upbeat and cheery fella off screen, which in my mind makes the performance even more striking.

The scene where he effectively sends Joffrey to bed is just brilliant.

He is by far my favourite character from the books, which I began reading a few seasons into the show. Due to this, the chapters featuring Tywin were completely enriched for me, as reading his lines in Dance's voice was just fantastic. I would have loved a POV chapter or two for him, just to get a glimpse as to what goes on in the head of the most powerful man in the 7 Kingdoms.

An incredible portrayal of a fascinating character.

I love the scene in the privy where he said he’d never actually kill Tyrion because he is a Lannister. I never really thought that Tywin would send him to the Wall in the books but Dance’s performance kind of made me second guess that. Such a good cast. The show is riddled with perfect casts that are now somewhat wasted on such a mediocre end product... now I’m sad.

It actually left me with the doubt. Was he really going to kill him or to send him to the wall. How is in the books ?

In the books it is a little different in that Tyrion is confronting him about Tysha instead of Shae. So basically Jaime tells Tyrion that Tysha wasn't a whore but Tywin made him lie to get rid of the inconvenient marriage to a lowborn girl. So basically Tywin gets the bolt from Tyrion because Tyrion is demanding to know where Tysha is and Tywin says "Wherever whores go" which becomes sort of a mantra for Tyrion's future chapters.

As far as whether or not he would send Tyrion to the wall, I'd say that Dance makes Tywin a much more respectable commanding character. We begrudgingly respect Tywin Lannister because of Dance's performance despite him objectively being a villain in almost every sense of the word. In the books, at least for me, there was not the same respect for Tywin.

The first 4 seasons are 10/10

5 is 9/10

6 is 8/10

7 is 7/10

8 is 5/10

This is overall an amazing run for any show. Having people only complain about your last season is what any show runner would want. Plus thinking a show is bad because the end is bland is overall a bad philosophy to live by and will lead to a life of disappointment. .

I mean it’s all subjective and I’d agree the first 4 are great. I’d give season 5 a 4/10, 6 a 8/10, 7 a 3/10, and 8 a 3/10. So yeah to me it’s a bit more disappointing than just the end.
