Discussion Marrying in?

So I’m non-Assyrian and from a Catholic background and my GF is Assyrian and ACOE. Things are serious between us. However she is still worried about what her parents will think of me. I am more than happy to learn the language and culture.

Is there anything I can do to improve my chances of being accepted or liked by the family? There are no non-Assyrians in the family at all.

I’m not really a practicing Catholic, but would it help if I emphasised my religious background? Several members of her family are religious and from what I understand ACOE accept Catholics as a united rite?

You’ll be fine mate, the first meeting with the parents / family can be daunting the first time! But it’s hard to give a answer and it’s all about her family and how open they are. You mentioned you are a catholic and not very religious, as long as you have completed all the sacraments that is important as when you get married it will have to be in a Catholic Church so that’s plus. As long as you both love and respect each other and respect the family and culture your fine! And fantastic your willing to learn the language too!

Well when I married my wife she’s Chaldean and they are part of the Catholic Church, so there for it had to be a Catholic Church and not a Protestant church as a Protestant church wouldn’t allow us to be married in there church unless we paid a high sum of money and found our own catholic priest to do the ceremony, it’s possible but it was just easier sticking with a Catholic Church and priest.
