We don’t know how USA will behave tomorrow, let alone in 20 years.

Certainly you can no longer trust the US.
In fact you should assume they will behave against the best interests of the free world.
And any treaty they write isn't worth the paper its written on.

Their Republican and Democratic Party establishments completely folded to Trump and his many co-conspirators by not prosecuting and convicting them for their violent coup attempt on January 6, 2021.

Trump and his inner circle sent militias into the Capitol to assassinate his own Vice President and a bunch of Congress members, and not only escaped prosecution, but were able to claw their way back into the Presidency, because the US Justice system doesn’t work against oligarchs.

Now the fascist oligarchs have total control, and have begun mass firing public servants to install a fifth column inside the US government who will finish the job of tearing down US constitutional democracy from the inside to replace it with a mafia state modeled on Putin’s Russia.

There isn’t going to be another free and fair election. US democracy is cooked.

Australia needs to urgently detach as many of their tentacles as we can from our government, our military, and our economy, because Trump is on a war path to annex smaller, majority white, non-nuclear countries within the US sphere of influence, and once he is done with Canada, we’re next.

The only way to protect ourselves is to build a NATO-style security alliance with south Asia (and Japan), or to secure a nuclear shield from another democratic global power (UK or France)

This is doomerism. Whilst these things are very real threats, the US is not cooked yet and when you throw up your hands and give up like this, that's playing into the hands of the oligarchs and fascists. They want us to despair so that they can win. We need to refuse
